Congrats to Rob.e, you lucky bar steward!

It does need a spoiler. The US and Japanese version has one, so why not ours? We can't order it in blue with gold wheels either. Once again we get the stty end of the stick here in the UK. Thanks Subaru!
Subaru UK noticed that a large number of American's prefer their Scoobs without wings, therefore they decided that the UK market should get the cars without the wing. Just to be sure of the job the UK models get a thinner boot lid as well, so if you do want a spoiler you have to change the boot lid before you can think about fitting one. Noticing that the vast majority of UK Imprezas are in WR Blue (which, correct me if I'm wrong, would deem it to be the most popular colour) they also decided that they would be better off not including that as an option for the new STI.

You don't have to be brain damaged to work in the Subaru UK Marketing Department... but it probably helps.

Any recommended reading? Reviews/threads/blogs/forums?

I have to admit I don't know much (anything!) about these cars, but I'm keen to learn.
One of the things I've enjoyed most about Impreza ownership is the huge level of support you can get from other owners.

Scoobynet probably contains the most information, though it can be a bit hit-and-miss if you ask questions on there. A lot of threads tend to turn into random slagging matches, but you can search the forum to pull out the information you need.

I personally find the local forums the best. I don't know where you are in the UK, but I pretty much guarantee there will be a Subaru forum for people local to you. Get on there, introduce yourself and I'm sure you'll get some decent advice - I did! smile

It would appear that they were doing everything possible to distance themselves from the 'old' imprezza in a bid to go upmarket (hence the hatch) they have come crawling back somewhat with this new saloon imprezza, which is a start, so hopefully the spoiler and blue paint will make a comeback when they realise that the brand is not yet ready to go upmarket. Much as subaru may not like it, they are still in the anorak and bobble hat stage. not armani suits.

Who knows in a few years, if they keep getting the legacy right, oh........

Well its not actually an Impreza (1 z! tongue out) anymore: its now the "WRX STI", they dropped the Impreza name.

I can see the "going upmarket" thing, but it seems odd to remove two of the most distinct "icons" (can't think of a better word there) in one of the longest running Impreza markets. Japan and even America - one of the Impreza's newest markets - get the spoiler and WR Blue as an option, yet not the UK. Crazy if you ask me, but hey, I'm not a marketing "expert"...

PS: Sorry for ranting in your glory thread Rob.e!

What if we could reinvent the entry process, perhaps using a phone?

Well, does that remind you of something? Remember the change from the classic to the bugeye? "we're doing this right". Sales halfed so they decided to make it look "nice" again.

Nice one Rob, Friday car and Octy still the daily?
I've had it since tuesday last week, driven nothing else since biggrin

.. but yes it'll probably work out something like that. It'll cost me £20 a day to commute in the Subaru where the Vrs has a fuel card. We'll see - novelty hasn't worn off yet by a long way lol..

So Subaru orders of magnitude faster/better than the Skoda then?

Your vRS is probably still quicker than mine, despite my mods, and I had a whale of a time up in Scotland last week in it. Covers ground at an alarming pace with clinical precision. Not as fun as say, my 205, but I was probably getting down the road twice as fast. Subaru even comparable, or in an entirely different league?

I have to say I've only ever been in two Imprezas, one when I was a kid a mate's Dad had a brand new blue with gold wheels WRX, but we only did a dual carriageway in it, just remember it being fast in a straight line. Second one was the 1.5 base model I had for three months as a courtesy car just recently. Felt very grippy, 4wd system was fab in the snow, but gearbox was notchy as hell and it was totally underpowered. What's the gearbox like on the STi?

Lucky bugger!

Totally deserved to win though, excellent ownership reports smile

First time I've seen a picture of the new saloon Subaru, looks nice.

I had to double take at the rear of the car in the side profile shot, I thought it was a 3 series!

They do offer a metallic blue option - albeit not the WR Blue as has already been said.

It's a much, much deeper blue - almost a blue-purple. The official name escapes me at present...

I assume that blue ^^^ is for the UK market?

Yep, that's Plasma Blue. When I was dreaming of winning, I was torn between that, Satin White and Dark Grey...

Yeah - if I was in the market for this car, they'd be the 3 colour options that'd present me with a bit of a conundrum, too. wink (Probably opt for white though.)

How long before it's in the Classifieds!?

Only joking, hope you enjoy it! Must be a great feeling giving a car away but I can imagine it's better receiving it!
Would've been in the next day if I'd won, to fund an R32 with a few mods smile
Though I guess putting at the end of your entry "I'd like to win the WRX so I can sell it to fund an R32 project", wouldn't go down too well hehe
So you would sell a nice brand new car to fund a massively inferior car? Mental
Yes, but not inferior to me.

I will only buy a car from the V.A.G range, so would only enter a 'Win a Car' comp to sell it to buy a VW/Audi
