would prefer a R8 V!) spyder or a V8 Vantage roadster

911 turbo cab has never looked right to my eyes, its the combination of the turbo spoiler and roof down that makes it look like a pram (whereas turbo coupe or n/a cab look lovely)

If the criterion, however, is a soft-top that's as fast and yet as usable as a 911 Turbo Cab then, my friend, you rather have me at a loss - because I don't think there is one. Maybe and SL63 AMG knocks on the door, but I think the 911 takes the gold by that measurement...
Perhaps then (and I appreciate we (I am) are arguing semantics), it isn't possible to do better if the criteria on which we are judging the 911 Turbo Cab is: 4-seats, cabriolet, VERY rapid and excellent daily usability (reliability).

I appreciate that I am being pedantic but as above, 'you could do a lot worse' begs the question/makes the suggestion that you could also 'do better'. My opinion is that Porsche have carved a clever little niche for themselves with the 911 - and perhaps especially so with the Turbo cab. It is a 4-seater (albeit compromised in the rear), that is faster than 99% of the other cars on the road and offers the owner daily practicality, reliability and yet all the pleasure of an open top sports car.

While not a fan-boy nor a detractor, I cannot honestly think of another car that offers the same features in an identical package (perhaps the DBS Volante but the price point is higher and the quality questionable when compared to the Germanic offering).

Thanks for being good natured and taking my pedantic questioning in the manner intended. beer
I agree there is no better for the items mentioned and as a non hard core road racer it si my pick for all the useable facts mentioned..

Agreed!

(Although not particularly a fan of the cabs in general, though.)

On a slightly different note, what has happened to the 911 second hand values?
They seem to have fallen through the floor (particularly the cabriolets!)clap

It's well over 4yrs old and has done nearly 50,000 miles, so keeping about half it's value is better than most cars... also whilst I quite like Guards Red it probably knocks a bit off the price too as it's not the most popular of Porsche colours. 911's in red kinda don't look right to me, having said that I usually buy red sports cars and I even had a Red 964 a few years ago and left a deposit on a early 997 in red too!

Isn't Porsche missing a niche in not having a GT3 cabriolet? Whilst a bit of a mis-match, I think it could be done and would be more valid than much of the niche filling that the VAG group does!
no no mate, c'mon, its the GT3 RS Cab with old Tip box that is the one missing from the range.. get with the script : -)

Think that depends upon the size of the 4-yr old. My daughter is 6 and fits just nicely in the back of a 911. Which you can't do in an R8, however great it might be. Or in an Aston Martin DB9. I haven't bothered trying the Jag as that looks the same as the AM. So if you want a sports car that isn't huge, can be used everyday, has rear seats that can be used by your children and is good to drive then there aren't many real alternatives. At least, I keep looking but always end up with another 911. If anyone has a real alternative to suggest I'd be glad to hear it (Panamera too ugly, Rapide too big, Maserati GranTurismo lovely but also too big, Ferrari California..don't think the rear seats are useable but not driven one...) I think only alternative is the GT-R, which is undeniably brilliant but also has some shortcomings (for me at least).
I have got a genuine 4 seat XJS (glenholme jobbie) requiring resto but good.

As for yellow...there are other cars that work in yellow, y'know... whistle
Or red whistle

Mind you, the back seats are a bit more cramped than the Porsche's...
