Bought a car seat last weekend: Cybex Cloud Z.

Quite expensive but has lie flat facility and with the isofix base can spin (which is probably more important with a toddler and the follow on Sirona Z seat).

I believe the new Cloud Z is quite a bit lighter than the old one. Didn't find it discernibly heavier than the equivalent from Maxi Cosi.

Build quality seems very good. Can be fitted to the car both with the isofix base as well as a seatbelt. Definitely worth a look if you're in the market for a baby seat.

The rotating base is one of the best features you can have. We had the Jane Matrix Light system, rotating Isofix base plus buggy frame. Being able to unlock the seat, and turn it from 'rear facing' to 'door facing' makes getting a small child in / out very much easier than trying to work with a fixed rear-facing seat.

Hello all.

I have a 15month old daughter. She's had has a rear facing Cybex Aton since birth. It has an Isofix base and is compatible with our Mamas and Papas pram.

She's getting a bit too big for it now and we're looking at a new seat. My other half wants her to go forward facing, which I'm not a fan of, for obvious reasons.

Whilst I think it's a good idea in terms of being able to keep an eye on her and to distract her if she gets narky, the current EU (i-Size) guidelines seem to suggest that she should be rear facing until she's four years old. Am I right?

It makes sense to me that they are safer in a rear facing seat but is there any concrete data to suggest just how much safer they are?

Obviously, this being Pistonheads, I'd like her next car seat to be a Recaro. Has anyone got one of these? https://www.uberkids.com/uk/recaro-zero-1-i-size-c...

Has anyone gone forward facing from 1+ year and what's your thoughts?

Cheers

I wouldn't recommend the Cybex Aton range to anyone by the way, unless you're a fan of hearing it rattle like mad.

Ours drives me mad. It rattles less when she's sat in it but I wish we'd have taken it back and swapped it to be honest.

Can anyone tell me if recaro child seats have an expiry date and if so, where to find it please? It’s a young profi plus if it makes a difference.
Mine don’t. They’re the Monza Nova 2 with isofix.

We have the Zero 1 and it’s good. Solid, lasted three years without issue, easy to clean and use.

That said our son is now approaching 3 and I’m going to get a Group 2/3 seat for him, to use the normal seatbelt instead of a harness.

At 15 months and depending on weight etc I’d consider a Group 1/2/3 combi like the Britax Romer Evolva instead of dropping £400 on the Zero 1 then buying a group 2/3 when they get to 3ish

That's a good shout actually, will look at all of the group 1/2/3 options.

Has anyone used these - https://www.uberkids.com/recaro-monza-nova-is-grou... - not sure I like the idea of the centre harness.

Has anyone had any experience with the Joie I-level I-size? We are set on a lie flat one, this one is isofix and fits onto our pram (thule urban glide). It’s a bit on the heavy side, and as legless has pointed out, getting it into our car (macan) could tricky.

I wish there were more reviews and info pertaining to the Joies, I really like the look, feel and price of them but its hard to justify compared to the more promoted stuff.

we've decided to order the Britax DualFix 2R (to update my previous question to this thread, thanks for the advice) it appears to do everything we want and according to the 13.7 million web pages my wife and I have scoured, appears to be the safest..

Will report back in the future with our thoughts

My eldest went forward facing as soon as he was big enough for his group 1 seat - he would not have fitted in a bigger rear facing seat in any of our cars. Whilst I realise it isn't as safe rear facing, the little guy absolutely loved being able to see everything and chat with us - especially in my MR2.

Having recently had a major clean-up of projectile from the back seats of my brand new, 1 day old company car (GRRR), I'm looking into seat protectors to fit under our 2 car seats.

One brittax has IsoFix connectors and the other MaxiCosi Axis is belt fitted, so I need access to the belt buckle and isofix points.

I'm also interested in some kind of water proof mat that can fit in the rear footwell to protect against muddy boots and various liquids.

Most of the waterproof covers I have seen have been designed for dogs and are a continuous sheet that attaches to the head rests.

What solutions have people found?

I've just used some old carpet off-cuts which I cut to shape myself. Goes under the child seat, and overhangs the front of the squab of the adult seat slightly to protect against muddy shoes. Even though the car has now had 5 years of small children, the seats underneath are still as new.

On the floor, I've got the manufacturer supplied rubber mats, which are easily removed and hosed clean when required.

Hello,

What is everyone getting for Group 2/3 now? BeSafe izi flex one to go for, or something else?

We use the BeSafe seat protector - it's intended for large rear facing seats, but has worked fine for all our front facing seats including the high back booster (which has Isofix to hold it in place). We've had it for years and it's looking a bit tatty, but it does the job of acting as a barrier layer.

We actually have one of those BeSafe covers sitting behind the Brittax which did manage to catch a generous pile of vom. It didn't protect the centre seat or the foot-well though. I like the idea of the carpet off-cut with strategic slits for the isofix and belt buckle. I'm still browsing those waterproof covers and cutting slits.

Well since none of you mo-fo's replied, I went and found one myself smile

After some reading online, went to shop for BeSafe izi Flex as it's one of two i-size on the market. In shop compared the BeSafe to Cybex Kore Pro, and Britax KIDFIX IIII S.

Former two are i-size rated but I much preferred the Britax so bought it.

How did the cybex cloud work out? We we’re set on the maxi cosi but the cybex has a few really nice features that has swayed us I think.

For our 3 we used Maxi Cosi and through 8 years hard use (apart from a bit grubby) still totally fit for purpose.

Not heard of the other one - so safety durability simplicity of use Maxi Cosi big tick in the box here.

Hi, my 6 year old is very tall for his age and we've moved the headrest upwards to fit him on the Britax Roamer Adventure he uses in my car.

Trouble is the car's headrest seems to get in the way, making the child's car seat very upright. I can remove the headrest but it's also used to attach the dog guard...all good fun.

Is there a group 2-3 seat that works with the car's headrests? What are the guidelines on car seat fitting? Shall I sell the dog? biggrin

What's the general advice around how long you can keep a baby in a car seat for? At hospital, we were told a newborn should spend no more than 30min in a car seat, but they didn't know when that can start to be extended. So at what age did people allow their baby to be in there for longer periods? Ours is coming up to 2 months and wonder how often we need to factor in breaks once lockdown is over.

Unrelated to the above but to contribute on car seats, we have a Cybex Cloud Z, with rotating and lie flat features. Very happy with it although quite heavy.
