Might be an error - I'd have thought that would have been flagged with the DVLA when the keeper changed in 2008.

Something dodgy about it - might be fine, but you'd have to go in with your eyes wide open.
the rear nsd door looks differant to rest of car as does the boot lid, although boot could be wierd light angle but that nsd rear door is deffo a differant colour

Oooh, i had one of those after a Toyota Cresida

More rust than good metal, yet inside was like new

Great on wet roundabouts, also had (as per the advert) buttons in the back to change radio station - you pushed the button the the needle would move along to find the next station.

Otherwise just a typical early Jap

These are used as Taxis in jakarta, these being the luxury version, over the Toyota Soluna. Have seen some unbelievably odometer readings on them.

That's because they will go on forever.

Am I the only one who hears 'The Peter Gunn Theme' playing in their head when they see this?

'Shed finds living proof that Japanese cars do have a history'? wink

They go on forever? A lightly stressed, non-interference straight 6 has something to do with that, plus being engineered for reliability can benefit longevity?

Jeez Louise, this takes me back.

Looking at this Crown takes me right back to 1981. I was 16, had just left Grammar School without looking backwards, could not wait to get into world of work.

Youth Opportunities Programme, Heywood, Manchester - Royal Wedding coming up. Maggie Thatcher as popular in the North as Osama Bin Laden. There was a tiny little Toyota dealership in Heywood - not there anymore. Was supposed to be sales trainee - actually £23 per week car cleaner and dogsbody.

The whole range from that year is indelibly imprinted on my brain. The Crown used to come in and there would be a big fuss - the car was the biggie in the range - Starlet, Corolla, Carina, Celica & Cressida. Not to mention the the trucks and commercials....

The big chrome wheel trims would be in the boot - wrapped in Japanese newspaper - always remember that.

My MD - Tom Merrick - would occasionally ask me to go on customer visits with him - the car was like a Hovercraft to ride in. I was used to Morris Marina and such like.

Wow - Thanks for the blast from the past

That garage was just down the road from me, Merrick Bros, taken over by RRG i think, then it shut down.
I was working in his house a few years ago and he gave me the full run down of how he was one of the first Toyota dealers in the Manchester area.
I see a few of these in pensioners' garages, quite like 'em but i just know the kids wouldn't be seen dead in one.

Haven't Lived in Heywood since 1982 - Tom & Trevor Merrick - figured that both brothers would have been dead years ago - Interesting that at least one of them was still around til recently.

Remember that dealership really well - set the template for the last 30 years - Still in the car trade - still selling motors - really quite sad when you think about it.

Interesting to see one of these in the UK, seen plenty in Singapore and Malaysia used as taxis. Was in one in Penang where the driver operated the throttle via a bit of string routed from the engine bay into the car through an air vent FFS! biggrin

There's something faintly Gypsy about these. My mate's brother had an earlier one. Gold pillarless coupe with a massive aerial that had to be bent back and clipped to the gutter. There was something faintly Gypsy about him.

Got to agree...thought it was just me. Only shed in ages I have struggled to find any redeeming features. RWD perhaps, but in THAT with its wallowing chassis & low geared steering (probably) I cant see it helping.

Non-interference is another redeeming 'feature'?

It's not a shed, it's a skip.

Do you not think you have a responsibility to pull the link to the advert now you know about the history.

If someone only reads the SOTW article without coming into the forum discussion, they could be quite tempted to but it?
