I notice this is getting frequent use after car manufacturers names on PH at the moment. I simply must go and find out what it means. Is it a "look at me I know Latin" phrase or something more? (Rhetorical question)
Just some sort of way to cope with all the motor companies being owned and/or sharing components with each other.

I'm not saying all these guys use the DSG from Borg warner (in fact, I know they don't) - but "VW et al" is shorter than "Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche..."

[The gearbox is already in 5th on the idle shaft, so that needs to be deselected and 3rd selected, using the robotics.
That process is not quick at all: that is my point. 1.1s to do a gearchange is not quick. Pre-cog removes this delay.
Sorry, for a second there I thought you weree saying that if you drive a DSG car and go 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th THEN back to 3rd. That last shift will take 1.1 seconds. (as in saying outloud "one thousand and" ) Obviously that's not what your implying as the downshifts are not that long if you're using the paddles. And anyone with experience of using a DSG box would know that's stupid.

Oh and stop viewing anyone with actual facts as insulting you. You really aren't that special that anyone cares. laugh There's a good boy. smile

I haven't read all the comments so I'm not sure if this little gem has been mentioned, courtesy of a pub chat with some McLaren chaps at La Sarthe last year. No wonder it beats the 458 really. McLaren bought and dismantled three allegedly.

Indeed. Same here. I've even been on one in Naples where the local cops were hired to be our navigators/bodyguards. And they definately didn't stick to the speed limit wink

If we must descend to the absolute depths of pedantry - but this is the internet, so it is almost obligatory - etc. should be used here instead of et al.
Sorry.

Quite right.

"Et al" is short for "Et alia", which means "and others"
"Etc" is short for "Et Cetera", which means "and the rest"

Very sensitive of you. That raises the question: "What are you doing here on PH?"

79 months later, I still have no clue. I think I'm only here to provoke fleck-spittled rage when I criticise the handling of Honda NSXs.

Dunno if anyone has noticed it yet, but it appears that the satnav has the track map on it. Anyone know if this car has datalogging for track use?

Insofar as the NSX is the best handling road car I've ever driven, your time might be more productively spent criticising the language of some posters, including me.

Whats the competition apart from Porsche?
What Porsche is that? GT2RS is in same ball park (price wise) but all sold out - all other Porsches that aren't special editions are at least £40k cheaper, so not competing against the MP12, I'd suggest, and the new hybrid V8 thingy will be at least twice as much as the MP12, so I think it's fair to say that Porsche isn't the competition.

Was this actually a serious question? Or a joke? As the pricing point for the MP12 shows that Mclaren thinks it's main competition is the 458.
Did you read all of my post? I'm not talking about the McLaren or 458. I was talking about competition for a new Lotus Esprit priced in the £100 - £125K bracket.

A well specced Turbo or Turbo S falls within that price bracket but theres not a lot else out there.

My point was its pointless in Lotus trying to target the McLaren of Ferrari because they just cant compete. Further down the market however they stand a good chance against the likes of the Turbo.
