By the way, those rumours about Maclaren dis-assembling some 458's. Untrue.
They did, however, entirely legally manage to get one of the very first 458s off the production line and scrutinise it from top to toe. Ferrari soon found out about this and were quite bent out of shape.
I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when they found out.
I await the spoof video taken from 'Downfall' to be posted on YouTube shortly.
I did a spell at a major high class car manufactoer a couple of years ago.

They always had a competitor in the back room being taken apart.

I thought it was common practice?

How can they stop it if they bought the car legally?

Nice review! Interesting to see the Sunday papers ignored the embargo; seems like some people aren't too happy about it: http://twitter.com/harrismonkey/status/36839920177...
That's extremely bad form from The Times.
Just to point out that the embargo was ignored by The Sunday Times, not The Times. The two papers have nothing to do with each other, having completely separate editorial teams.

They cannot stop it.
Ferrari try hard to control who buys their limited edition cars and their early production run cars.
In this situation, although as far as I know they had made no special effort to keep McLaren in particular from seeing one of the first of the production run, they were pi55ed that one of their "best" customers was not as devoted to them as they had presumed.

Regardless of what anyone might think of the man (and he certainly divides opinions), I would have expected no less than perfection from any project overseen by Ron Dennis, and that is exactly what has been delivered by McLaren with this car.
