Imagine the look on the owners face of the conventionally doored Ferrari 458, at the petrol forecourt, when an MP4-12C owner pulls in and pops open his dihedral door to exit.
Pure theatre.
I suspect also reason enough to attract over some of the Ferraristi.
Personally I hate the doors on the Macca. I would have the 458 every day of the week although very pleased to see British engineering leading the way.Pure theatre.

If the 458 and the MP4-12C (sounds like the name of a Casio calculator) were women which would you rather have an affair with?
MP4-12C for me, but not that I dislike the 458 mind...

Mclaren for me - 100%.
It's got class and it's relatively discrete. Ferrari's always scream look at me, look at me. I'm in a Ferrari.

Fair to say opinions are divided, then? Pure theatre.
I think I may be alone in thinking the 458 looks like utter arse. I have never liked it and fail to see why it rouses so many people.
Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that noise, but not once have I ever looked at it and considered it pretty, beautiful or even remotely good looking.
That's not me jumping all over it just for sake of its closest rival being British, the Macca is hardly a looker in itself...there's just something about it that's a bit...meh.
The MP4-12C does seem to be a case of 'anything you can do, we can do better'. The stats are just too close to the Ferrari, everything just seems that few % more, or less if applicable, just for the sake of trumping the 458. Not belittling what they have achieved, as from everything I've read this morning it does appear to be fantastic. It just comes across a little Porsche in its purpose and having a perfect little slot carved out for it.
Maybe I am just chatting utter drivel, as I am far from being able to afford, or even drive the pair but I'm not particularly bothered by either of them, especially the Ferrari.

The Mclaren is quite simply awesome. If I was lucky enough to have £180k burning a hole in my pocket there would be an MP4-12C space being cleared in my garage right now.
Luckily there is a guy just round the corner from us who placed his order at an open day last year so we should at least get to see one in the flesh from time to time.

I just do NOT like that Ferrari.
The bonnet (as I've written at least 10 times) comes from an other car!
And the profile proportions are wrong somehow; nothing like the front-engined ones.
Nearly all rear-engined cars look wrong in fact. Like Formula Ones!
Just remember a 375, or a Lancia D50, a Maserati F250, etc. those are nice proportions!
The McLaren is rather nice in fact. Not very original, apart from the double air intakes on the sides, but neat, clean, elegant.
McLaren for me with lightweight wheels and carbon trim, it has the understatement and quality of a Carrera 911 but with the performance of a Ferrari/Lamborghini Fly the flag Buy British
The MP4-12C is like Michael Caine to a Ferrari 458 is like Raf Vallone in the Italian Job……..where Raf Vallone says that you should not underestimate the English !!!

If you could get another 10% perfrmance for the same price I think quite a lot of people would go for it even if the original had more that you were ever likely to need.
I lile the looks of the 458 but I also like the McLaren. Its less extravagant which fits in with the brand very well.

The way the figures were quoted wasn't ideal either; for power it was Ferrari first and McLaren second, then torque McLaren first and Ferrari second, then for CO2 it's back to Ferrari first and McLaren second. Not impossible to figure out which is which, but interrupts the flow of the article somewhat!
I thought the same. Good read otherwise though!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
