RE: SOTW: Ford Mondeo ST24
Discussion
Anyone who doesn't "get" it will laugh, but there is something slightly special about the RSAP ST24s compared to the rest of the range - a bit of a halo model, and a good one is still very sought after. These are much cheaper than an equivalent age and mileage 3 series, and this is an important point for many of us - the same money thus gets you a better Mondeo, even if it may be not quite as good a car.
Still good enough for me though, and with heated screens, traction control and FWD a bit easier to pedal in the winter!

I like the look of these. My only concern is resale.
Its entering that area of 'interested punters' who can't really afford high insurance (group 16) or low fuel mpg isn't it? So you could be stuck with it come resale time
You're considering buying a cheap shed and you're worried about re-sale???Its entering that area of 'interested punters' who can't really afford high insurance (group 16) or low fuel mpg isn't it? So you could be stuck with it come resale time

I’ve just remembered, my ST24 had a buckled front alloy when I bought it........
Apart from feeling rather foolish at getting on my soap box about the ST24 and then realising it was you who recommended it as an SOTW in the first place, my hint at badge snobbery wasn’t directed at you by the way! It was more people who just instantly dismiss it because it's Ford.
My ultimate everyday shed would be a manual E34 535i, but I just know a good ‘un would cost me more than my Mondeo did and I’d have to travel a lot further to find one.

No worries - I've had several Fords in the past (albeit all Fiestas) and they were all lovely, but it was a constant battle convincing other people of that fact...

Sorry late to the party
Out of curiosity what is the ride like in an ST200 or ST24 ?
Out of curiosity what is the ride like in an ST200 or ST24 ?
There's a noticeable different between the two. The ST200 is much stiffer overall and feels very well planted. The ST24 has a firm ride also but it's well damped, soaks up speed bumps and ruts without any unpleasant jarring, unlike the Vectra GSi I had.

So probably the ST24 is a better car for every day use?
Yes I would say so. I would still take a look a the Ghia but I can appreciate why someone would opt for the ST24, that's what I did afterall. My Dad's got an ST200 and he's considering getting rid, I could no doubt have it for a good price but I just prefer the ST24 set up as an everyday car because the ride and handling are a good compromise. The ST200 would get very tiresome quickly where I live because the roads around town are in a dreadful state. I guess if lived somewhere with good roads and I had somewhere of my own to keep it I might feel differently.
