I think it looks a far sight more convincing than many reps out there. Price is a bit outlandish, but fair play to the builder to make a profit off a kit car! Must be some salesman!

As to the people saying "but it won't perform like the real thing", people have put V8s in the Mk1 Focus and converted it to RWD, so why not a Cougar? Sure, it still won't perform like the real thing (and definitely won't sound like one!), but it would give it slightly more sporting credentials and be a hoot to drive!

On replicas in general, I don't mind them. I could never afford a real Cobra or Porsche speedster, but I could one day hope to buy a replica which looks as good and in many cases performs better! Funny thing is, even if I had the money I wouldn't want a real Cobra; there are so many convincing replicas out there that everyone would think it's a kit anyway!

On a related, but slightly OT note, I know a man with a real Ferrari 308 with a small block Chevy in it!! I think he must've blown the original engine and put in the SBC as a replacement. Actually makes some sense as it'll be easier to find parts for, cheaper to maintain, and makes way more power and torque than the original. Must pi$$ off the "purists" no end!

I wonder where the line is drawn - replica vs the real thing and what is good or not so good? For example:

Some great 'replicas':
Jag C-type
AC Ace
AC Cobra
Ford GT40
Lancia Stratos
Ford RS200
Bugatti Type 31
Lotus 'Westfield' 11
Porsche Speedster

As the owner of a Cobra replica myself i've realised that if anyones stupid enough to ask you if its real you dont need to tell them it's not :P

Kind of annoying if you own a real AC Cobra and everyone asks you, is it real mate, or a kit?

Apart from the base car and not seeing the interior - ok and the price - it's not a bad effort.

probably would not have cost as much if he based it on somethibg else with either V8 and/or 4wd

I managed this 200 lookalike for less than £7k - 300bhp 4wd 1240kg and sva'd

2nd fastest out of 60 cars at Croft trackday
Im a big big fan of those and briefly looked into it myself but im rather pushed for space to do the work. 7k is bloody cheap mind you, how did you manage that or does it show close up?

what 200 lookalike? All I see is 2 white boxes with red crosses! Intrigued to know what it is as the only 200 I can think of was a Rover and no-one made replicas of those (understandably). RS200?

Spoke to a Lotus 340R owner at goodwood who told me he gets that question a lot. Had to chuckle when he said he wanted to lamp someone in the petrol station that asked if it was based on a beetle biggrin
