It has 168bhp and front wheel drive ... how is it one of the better replicas?

There are Jaguar C & D-type replicas out there, for example, that have the same running gear, the same basic engine, the same suspension layout and the same power levels as the original. Some of them can fool people who've raced the originals. Yet I'd hazard a guess that someone who's driven a real Veyron would sense a slight performance deficit with the Cougatti.
No, it's one of the better ones.

Who cares if it is good or not! The simple question is, why? confused Not wishing to detract from the effect, and all that, but I'm betting the converstion wasn't cheap so wouldn't it have been better to invest the money in a 2nd hand Ferrari? I mean, at the end of the day, the owner will still be driving an old Ford Cougar.

pointless replica, most people buy replicas of great looking cars - Stratos, Cobra, Ferrari P3/4, etc etc. People don't buy Bugatti for the look of the thing (I hope) - massively impressive car, but it is not a looker!

the think with this is it looks (from pictures) like a pretty good lookalike... but it's not a replica...

The car in your link doesn't look anything like a Veyron. The proportions are all wrong and many of the basic shapes are wrong.

Or was that the point you were making?

Ok, i'm going to say it, i like ford cougars, i think they're a good design i think those who dislike it are badge snobs. If these things had an Audi badge on the front and filled the gap between the 90's Coupe and the A5 everyone would gob off for hours on end about how nice they look.

I do admit when Willaim Hague bought one and everyone else subsequently stopped buying them it was off putting and the name can only really be described as tw4tty. But they are and always have been excellent value and are highly underrated IMO.

The replica on the other hand? Dear oh dear. What does it say about you if you wear a fake watch, fake clothes or drive a fake car? £55k? If you are considering it, pop down to Morrisons and ask the fishmonger to slap you across the face with the largest fish in there, then buy a 911 or a 360. You nutter.

I think what people are finding annoying isn't the fact that the replica aspect of it is getting a kicking, it's probably more what is being said about the Cougar.

our sincerest apologies to those who do remember it

It was one of Ford's less successful coupe attempts

As one of the less appealing results of Ford's 'New Edge' design philosophy of the late 90s, the transformation from 'Cougar' into 'Cougatti' is arguably a visual success

the change of bodywork was an improvement over the original Cougar bodywork
All a bit unfair and OTT really. This is supposed to be a place where we don't st on cars, it's a step far when staff are on it too. There are PH members who own and enjoy their Cougars, why go out of your way to alienate them?
I think he was getting annoyed about the replica aspect, FWIW, but in answer to your accusation...

I would suggest that both the Cougar and Probe were hardly critical or sales successes (though I admit I don't have the figures or reviews to hand).

Having said that, I will plead guilty on the other aspersions that I cast on the Cougar's character, but ask for leniency in sentencing on the grounds that it is only my opinion...

I think imitation is just a form of flattery!.. i wonder what the interior is like, will it have the exquisite interior of the veyron or genuine ford plastic..either way i doubt if it could possibly pass for the Veyron, but live and let live...if you want to buy one then why not...but before you do, just think of what real cars you could buy for that money...

I wonder where the line is drawn - replica vs the real thing and what is good or not so good? For example:

Some great 'replicas':
Jag C-type
AC Ace
AC Cobra
Ford GT40
Lancia Stratos
Ford RS200
Bugatti Type 31
Lotus 'Westfield' 11
Porsche Speedster

Kind of annoying if you own a real AC Cobra and everyone asks you, is it real mate, or a kit?
Needs to be

1. Correct engine config/drivetrain layout(ideally from the original manufacturer, like jag reps)
2. Visually correct
3. Captures the spirit of the original, or is better than the original

Almost all super car replica's fail on all 3, thats why the ones that really work are replica's of race cars, with a few exceptions like the speedster.

On the cobra front the line is blured because Mr Shelby is/was happy to sell kits as cobra's. The Kirkham/Hawk Cobra is vastly superior to the original anyway, and very much a modern version of it. Ford have been happy to use on on their stands.

I just left something in the gents that I could happily describe as being significantly hard work. It shared many similar properties with the faux Veyron above but I'm not going to try and charge someone £55,000 for it.

I have to admit, it would fool me into thinking it was he real thing looking at a glance. Sure must have been costly to do this. Only downside is, the power lol. Needs a V8 or hot rod engine in it to complete the conversion, lol.
