RE: Alfa Romeo Reveals 4C Concept

Not sure - they say that along with the 4C concept, the new "Lava Red" paint makes its debut. It is "an anodised, soft touch red from a paint that creates depth and power" and that the colour is "desirable and precious" thanks to the "soft touch effect".
To be fair it looks like a Met. Burgundy car thats had a hard life.Tuvra said:

My missus went to an Alfa dealer today and the senior sales guy seemed highly sceptical about (i) the 2012 date for any cars that come to the UK and (ii) the carbon fibre tub making it to the production version. He suggested 2013 before anything comes to the UK, and that it will be priced (in today's money) somewhere between 35 and 40k. And they are not taking orders.
Would be interested to hear whether those at the stand in Geneva were able to place an order.
I wouldnt know about Alfa dealers, I have never dealt with them. Ive always dealt with Alfa directly. I ordered the 8C at the motorshow and you dealt with a dedicated team. I intend doing the same with this. I havent decided if I will order it in lhd or rhd yet or even which country I will pick it up from.Would be interested to hear whether those at the stand in Geneva were able to place an order.

I hate you.I dealt with Fiat HQ in UK when I was looking at the 8C, but I am not sure that us normal punters will be able to do that for the 4C. The 4C will just be a standard production model, I imagine, and hard to see why HQ need to be involved.
Even for the 8C, once the spec was finalised and order placed, delivery logistics and everything after that would have been handled by HQ's nominated Alfa dealer (which was HR Owen in Parson's Green).

I only ever dealt with Damian throughout my order. Opinions may vary on whether this was a good thing or not!Even for the 8C, once the spec was finalised and order placed, delivery logistics and everything after that would have been handled by HQ's nominated Alfa dealer (which was HR Owen in Parson's Green).

Crikey, must have missed that one, Davidicus.Brother Asbo recently regaled me of his encounter with one and what a sublime thing to behold/hear it was.
Your audience is all ...
Fwiw, I would endorse any punts on this new car - I've never bought into faux Alfadom but beauty is beauty.
I ignored all sensible advice that dealing with Alfa could reduce a man to tears.
I am proud to say that they did not reduce me to tears and that my manhood is therefore intact. They did however reduce me to near incomprehensible fury, frustration and on one memorable occasion the wicker laundary basket at home took the full brunt of Alfa's failed promise to deliver me unto Paris to see said motorcar after arrangements had been made. The noise I made after they put the price of the car up by £10k suddenly and with no explanation my wife best described as rough equivalent to the walls of Jericho being shagged by particularly randy stag doo of Wookies.

So, had a good look round it today.
Stunning, from every angle. The interesting thing though is what Alfa were saying about the details...absolutely nothing. They were even mentioning they did not know what engine they would put in the production car. Now I dont know what others have been told, but I had a verx strong conversation with the head of the Alfa Mission there and he was absolutely adament that *nothing* was finalised about the car yet. As such Alfa were not taking any cheques, any expressions of interest, there was no list available for the car. Nothing. Nada. They will take your details and enter them into the system, but after that, no promises. Ive never known Alfa turn cheque books down! They did say though that the first cars would be rolling out of the factory last month or so in Dec 2012. I shall leave you to draw your own conclusions from that.
On the other hand however, both Lotus and Morgan tried to get my cheque book before id even made it to a car! To my complete shock Morgan even said they could probably provide a Supersports by this summer. Getting a car out of Morgan in a timeslot of months rather than years usually requires some kind of mythical blood sacrifice and calling in every favour with dark Gods of the underworld.
Oh and Lotus? Sack the rank bird who was representing your Zurich dealership. It will be a cold day in hell before I buy a car off someone that useless.

That's exactly what they did when they first showed the 8C concept back in 2003. A few dealers apparently took deposits, but that was obviously just a punt on their part - better to have a couple of thousand pounds of customer's money in the bank than not. I'd guess that the dealers who are allegedly taking deposits against the 4C are doing the same thing.jamieboy said:

No it wasnt Jamie, which is precisely the point I was trying to make. For the 8C, I went to Alfa at the motorshow and said...I want one. They said yes sir, here is the list add your name and we will contact you in due course. I deliberately went to Geneva to follow that same course of action. I have drawn several conclusions about the car from this today.DJC said:

I fully agree. Not to mention the extra tractability you get from the clutch. You have no idea how much I yearn for that extra tractability when I'm driving around town with a twin clutch box
That is an excellent point no one ever seems to mention. With traffic density and queues everywhere we spend most of the time in these situations in daily driving and it is the biggest downside to these paddle semi-automatic gearboxes and twin clutch , whoever makes them - Lamborghini, Smart or VW you have just that bit less control and smoothness of operation in driving , oddly enough the one in the MGF/ Rover 25 etc is one of the friendliest to use in town traffic but that is a CVT with stepped manual over ride.RTH said:

I have a theory of why this point is never mentioned. How many people actually live with a twin-clutch box day on a daily basis, driving through jams and to do school runs? Even professional test drivers don't. All everyone feels, sees and hears is how the box blips amazingly on the downshift, and how it shifts seamlessly when high on the rev-range. Even actual owners probably reserve such cars for the weekend and not as a daily drive. Thing is, I want my car to be enjoyable on the track, but not a pain to live with on a daily basis. When dealing with town traffic, a fully slush-box auto is frankly the best, followed by a manual. Twin clutches and SMGs are a pain.
On the other hand, when driving enthusiastically, TCTs and SMGs are fun, while a manual is also still fun, if not even better (for some). A full auto isn't the best choice.
So the most logical choice for the best of both worlds? More me its the manual

Can anyone point to where this £30k price that is being banded around on this thread is coming from? The article states:
"It's too early to put a figure on the price of the 4C, but expect it to be pitched roughly at the same level as the Porsche Cayman/Boxster."
Isn't that more like £40k / £50k when optioned??
It might be my fault I posted on the first page saying £30k dream on, more like £40k+. "It's too early to put a figure on the price of the 4C, but expect it to be pitched roughly at the same level as the Porsche Cayman/Boxster."

Just total speculation on my part.
