Given the value of other XJ12's, initial reaction is that this one is a touch underpriced

Unless 'some body restoration' means that it is actually rotten.

Excellent shedding. One of my favourite big saloons from the 1980's.

"Needs some restoration on the bodywork" = be prepared to throw it away when the MOT is due.

Still would though.

Prudent of the seller to include a Haynes Manual :-) May come in handy to prop up the bonnet while you wait for your local Jag Guru! Lovely cars though!

Just checked the advert and the bloody thing is in Cornwall.

It would cost more in petrol to get it home than he is asking for the car.
In Cornwall you say? scratchchin

Runs off to check bank account

For that genuine 'east end' charm it has to be worth a bag.
As an aside I was reading an article that quotes, sit comfortably, 45hrs labour to replace the head gasket on the jag's V12. 45hrs!!!!! That's if you can get the head off which apparently isn't always the case. Eye opener.

Lovely car.

I love the current Jaguar line up, in fact I think they are one of the most exciting car manufacturers out there at the moment.
Beautifully engineered, but they look like Hondas. You wouldn't know that they were Jags if they were de-badged. My S-Type will probably be the last Jag I own, unless they make the XK better looking.

Well, the original E-type V12 could be had with a manual...

I love these. At that price if I hadn't bought another Series 3 last month I would have been having that.

I still can't decide whether I like the V12 better in the XJS or the XJ12.

Just think, every time you brim the tank you increase its value by 10%.

Nice but a money pit.

I disagree - I think the current Jags look great, perform well and would be top of my list were I in the market for that sort of car. They seem to be selling well too.

seems very unfair to call it a shed, it is sad that the car is only worth shed money really

You too can be Harold Shand...

It is sad that these old Jags aren't yet worth restoring.

The engine alone is worth the asking price.
I've owned nearly half a dozen of these Series 3 V12 Jaguar's. Never bought one for more than 500 pounds! ... except ONE which was fully restored.

I AM ACTUALLY RESTORING ONE - have a look at my post in the Readers car section.

A friend bought an XJS a few years ago for shed money. Looked great and solid and seemed a good buy. Well, that lasted a few weeks before things starting going wrong. A long list of failures later and he still loved it. Though the final straw was when it was snowing, he couldnt close the window and the heater had failed - the jacket, gloves and a hat still couldnt keep the cold at bay and he had to stop constantly to clear the windscreen!

A totally brilliant and epic shed - daft thing was it always started! You just couldnt drive it! Oh, and the interior smelled of old dog, which is fascinating because we were sure no dog had been in it!

IT IS TRUE!!! takes bloody ages to get the head off....
it took 52 hours to replace a head gasket ... don't let a v12 overheat - it will be your worst nightmare!!

Oh yes, now that is a proper car! My old man had an XJS V12 a few years back... Remember him doing 120 on the M5 and the damn car was only pulling 2.500 rpm. I've always wanted a V12 jag since then! Mind you, approx 10 hours to replace the spark plugs IIRC...
