Ignoring the deliberately silly answers, there are some on here that somewhat miss the point:-

- BMW MINI actually a very entertaining car, and only overpriced if you ignore the glacial depreciation on them because they're fashionable. It's not very practical or economical but it looks good and drives well.
I found it over-rated (as asked in the OP). I expected a great drive and was disappointed, it was uncomfortable and understeery when pushing on. I expected a well-built car and was disappointed (lots of return trips to the dealer). Plus the whining from the power-steering was very annoying in a "quality" product.

It's not a bad car, but I wouldn't drive one again and find them over-rated.

Maybe we had a bad example; I have to assume that was the case as so many others rate them highly.

I think there are some "Overrated" cars in the market, not really fast or special but most of the folks wants to buy it.. and those cars are selling well on the Market.

Im thinking of Fiat Abarth 500 or BMW X5, the first one isnt fast, the second one is a container on wheels. They are both magnets for uneducated car buyers...

Thoughts ?
what do you drive?

Way too heavy for what?? You must be really daft if you think anyone designed or buys them with offroading in mind. Have you ever driven an X5?
2.2 tons < is simply too much for a shopping car,im not a environmentalist but that car is a huge waste of everything.

And no i dont have a license for lorry. smile

And im driving a Subaru WRX car of the decade when it comes to bang for buck, despite the ugliness.. smile

I would rate it higher than a WRX any time of the day...

Sorry OP - you're just a troll IMHO.

It's just as possible for a good car to be overrated as a bad one. In fact if anything it's more common for good cars to be overrated.

I think on here, I'd say the MX5 is the most overrated. It's a good car (a very good one for what it costs), but it doesn't deserve the worship it seems to attract on Pistonheads. Second to that, I'd say most things built by BMW and Porsche; again, very good cars, and often the best cars in their respective markets, but not as vastly superior as people make out.

I don't think the majority of people buy the abarth 500s because they think they are fast.

I do think people that buy the essese kits have more money than sense though so could possibly be "uneducated"

No. I'm sorry, how can you criticise a car with credibility when you've never even driven one?

Just to follow the X5 example - OP said 2.2t is "Too much" - I've never felt this way, I like its comfort and toys and size etc and that has to weigh more than a japanese saloon with crappy interior. With bigger engines in the X5 they can really shift and handling is also really good, you really don't feel those 2.2t. So in essence - the car is UNDERRATED by the OP.

So the OP has started a topic just to stir the opinions, with no background to his statement and that's why I call it trolling.

And? So now you are saying that people don't buy X5 for offroading anymore, now they buy them to race WRXs at the traffic lights?

Dare I say it but MX-5. They're great as a little fun roadster but not quite as awe-inspiring as many think they are.

Well first of all: its my opinion ,and most people are using that Container for saturday shopping.. or for blocking the road so you can see st.I have nothing against people who are using that vehicle for offroading or transporting few things. But most X5s are filled with chavs & tushees who need to compensate their size with the car.

Those people are hopeless.

agreed. the 3.5 twin turbo is bloody quick for a 2t car and can happily hold its own against most stuff. Not super quick, but what do you expect? If you want the mega fast one, buy an X5M then. I bet the new 4.0d is quick too. But in terms of being over-rated, I can imagine the X5 drives exactly how people expect - comfortable performance - so it can't be accused of being overrated. I know which I'd rather do long journeys in, or journeys with kids with lots of comfort and toys at my disposal!
