myself and a few mates bought an old granada 2.8 auto funeral limo 2 years ago between us and have used it since for trips to the coast/nights out etc. got an open insurance policy and it's been such a laugh. taken serious stick and never missed a beat once. only thing doesn't work is the heater which is very poor but it's not used during the winter anyway,

Had a couple in me time, a 2.8 Ghia, 2.8i GhiaX exec and a 2.0L, the 2.8 carb was juicy and slow, the 2.8I was juicy and fastish, the 2.0L was bloody juicy and bloody slow laugh
I do miss the exec, lovely seats, lovely smooth drive, just needed more power, never seen one with 160 more like 150 bhp on a good day frown
C/L allways needs lubing as do the windows and the wiring in the bay is terrable, the connectors turn to dust but i did love that exec cool
FAT36Y - gunmetal grey with grey leather exec int, front and rear spoliers, S/R spoiler. spots and fogs, 7X15 locking RS 7 spoke alloys, what a car cool

First car I ever went more thatn the ton in. A friends dad had one and took us swimming. Three or four kids in the back with no seat belts, child seats, peering over his shoulders to see the magic number come up. Itäs a miracle that weäre all still alive today wink
Yeah I remeber my mates Dad having one of these in black back in the 80's. It used to beep when you went over a certain speed. Managed 100mph on the north circular!

Top shed. I remember my dads Granada 2.8 Ghia when I was small, nice W reg inn a navy blue. I sure miss the sound of that engine with the auto gearbox. Also have a fondness for those wheels too. I guess the car no longer exists.

As for the whistling sound of the water pump, I think these usually are cured with a drop of oil in the top hole of the pump.

Wrong Diff

Wining Pump (Water/PAS)

Blower Motor Failed

Duff Spare Tyre

Dented/Rusty/Faded Paintwork

Rattly Engine

Idle Speed too fast

Overheats in traffic (ok, doesn't boil over, but still overheating!)

Due an Oil/Filter Change

One rear electric window is stuck

All of the windows are a bit lazy

The central locking suffers the usual Granada problem of Just Plain Doesn't Work Properly

The hazard light switch only flashes the right-hand indicators.

The wrong Dipstick is fitted, so the oil level warning light is inoperative. (How can that be a "Standard" Dipstick??

Seat covering is sagging

one repaired rip on the rear seat

bolster adjustment wheels have both broken off

Some of the seat adjuster functions don't work

Both electric mirrors work slowly

Some of the interior plastic has faded

The bumpers have the usual minor buckles where they've been bumped in the past (These actually look pretty severe, one on each side of the front bumper and one in the center of the rear bumper!)

a loose goose-neck reading lamp in the back (which works, but is not fastened down )

No TAX

No MOT

frown

Could I be the Baddy in the Jag??

I had an '85 2.8i Ghia X Executive, beautiful car. If I could find a minter I'd have a another in a flash.
Standard they were 150 bhp. The 2.8i Capris had 160bhp - this was due to the different exhaust.

Being a bit of a Ford Nerd, the Executive was a run out model for the MKII, and was only available for 20 months of '84/'85 in 2.8 carb/2.8i, thus only on an A or B reg. Anything prior to this was only a Ghia X with leather option. As someone said earlier, the Executives had different leather with more padding. The leather incidently was supplied by The Connelly Brothers company and was not heated unlike the Ghia X cloth seats.

Interestingly, the Ghia X was available in 2.8 carb and injection, but also in 2.3 carb form. I've only ever seen a handfull of these.

Most of these great cars ended up on the banger track due to their strength and ease of preparation frown
To find an immaculate one now is quite a task.

That's a real car right there. That's a childhood of highlighting cars in autotrader in the hope that my dad could find an extra few pounds somewhere to "go big". Bring back the Granadas and the SD1 vitesses say I. Even updated for the 21st century with torquey diesels I'd have a piece of that over a white good like my current Passat yawnmobile. Must be RWD mind. Hell I'd even go velour.

Wow, your glass really is half empty, isn't it. Are you a goth by any chance?

PS: Since when did " a bit tappetty" = "rattly engine"? The engine runs fine with NO rattles or clonks or bangs or untoward noises, except for a little bit of tappet noise. Anyone who has ever owned a Ford Cologne V6 engined car will know that the tappets are usually audible, and are a regular adjustment item.

Joking aside, sorry for having opened a bit of a Pandora's box for you on this one , but cheers for coming on the thread to discuss the car - really adds to an SOTW to get the vendor involved smile.

Hope the sale goes well. Wish I had either the money or the time for this, as i'd make you an offer myself!
Cheers Riggers... I guess I couldn't have begged for more publicity, and at least there is some interest in the old girl...

Anyone who describes a car as 'she' in an advert is clearly a paisley sock wearing, leather elbow patched, St Bruno pipe smoking geek and Morgan wannabe owner.

This just screams money pit everywhere. How much to sort out all that's wrong? Diff, dipstick, electrical gremilins? No tax or MOT dented to buggery and he still wants a bucket of sand?

Trot on.
Ah, making stereotypes hey? Your profile says you live in Devon, yet you use sayings such as "bucket of sand" & "trot on", a wannabe cockney gangster, that's seen one too many Guy Ritchie movies wink
Brilliant! And it'd more likely be 'bag of sand' and 'jog on'. Still, good effort 'me ol china'...

theres some right rubbish typed in this thread by motoring experts who can value a old car better than quentin wilson,if you really knew about mk1 and 2 granadas you would know that just a solid strong saloon rolling shell can sell for over £750 with no interior or engine because to certain people like car dismantlers and scrap metal dealers who banger race the granada is the ultimate car for it,you can easily prepare a mk2 for war in a big meeting that offers prize money and even turn up money because spectators love to watch granadas jags and rollers and the odd yank smashing themselves up and a granada can go faster than a jag and hit harder and theres plenty of drivers who use limited slip diffs, larger capacity race engines just to do what the driver at 1 min in the video below is doing.

Dear everyone who had a pop at my car, all those years ago.

Fortunately, someone with a bit more vision than - for example - Petrolhead_Rich purchased the car, and got her back on the road with the greatest of ease (I'm told).

Anyway - it's back on eBay now, a couple of owners further on, still sporting that dent; currently £1300 up on what I sold her for. Who knows what the final price will be, but it sounds like someone had a nice Granny for a few years, effectively for free.

Just, y'know, saying.

Indeed the 2.8i Ghia X ( Executives with optional leather ) were just badged as 2.8i Ghia X.

Lovely cars. I had 5 in total over the years in differing trim/models and engine sizes but mostly 2.8's.

I was a member of the original Granada Enthusiasts Club which was founded by the late Peter Gupwell who as a club we sadly lost at a young age. The club was taken over and run by Peter Snow who was another really nice chap and the last I heard Mohamad Shaffi and his wife took it over but would not know if this particular club is still going or not.

I still have my original club mug I bought showing a pre facelift mk2 and a mk 3 on it.

Great days and great memories of a great car.

Cheers
