Are Porsche on a spiral in terms of diluting their model names? I mean in the 80s, the Turbo was the top dog. Then when the Turbo went a bit soft, there was the GT2 and GT3 for hardcore owners. Then the GT3 got air con and a radio and you really needed a GT3 RS as the true driver's machine. Now they're saying the the GT3 RS is not the top dog either and you need a "Porsche 911 GT3 RS LE".

I can see that by 2020, the GT3 RS LE will have leather, carpets, sat nav and integral child seats and the new driver's car will be the "Porsche 911 GT3 RS-RR LE ClubSport Lightweight... S".

Will it be as fast as the old GT2 RS round the track?
I would think it would depend on the track. GT2RS will be quicker in a straight line, but GT3RSLE will be quicker in the corners and more instant throttle response
Quicker throttle response I can understand, but why would the GT3RSLE be quicker around the corners than the GT2RS?
Less weight, which means it can be later on the brakes and earlier on the power. More downforce, which means more speed can be carried through the corners and brake more effectively.

Can't agree with you there. It's the last hurrah for the mezger engine, bored out to 4.0 with 500 neckhair prickling horsepower. If I were Porsche, I'd just badge it as a "GT3 RS", showing 4.0 on the wing end plates. Keep it looking as similar to the 3.8 as possible, leaving a balls out RSR look (maybe) for the 991 GT3 when it arrives in 2015 or so.

The GT2 and GT3 were homologation specials and were avalable with air con (delete no cost option) and a radio from the outset. It is after all a road car, not a trackday special.

To clarify an OPC is not allowed to accept a deposit for any speculative car .... just imagine the amount of deposits they could accumulate for future 991 ( 998 ) GT cars or the next CGT / limited edition cars......if they did I for one would have a deposit on the 992 ( 999 ) now be the first person in the UK to have one and make a killing

I think this car will decimate GT2 RS values, let alone GT3 RS v2 values.

Most bought the 997.2 GT3 RS believing it would be the ultimate naturally aspirated RS model in the 997 family. Now it isn't.

Many will be annoyed...

But I don't care - just as long as I get to drive one i'll be happy. Methinks this LE is going to be epic.
Porsche GT cars are like a drug - people are hooked and will keep upgrading no matter how annoyed they are.
Most people bought the 997.2 GT3 RS because it is the ultimate naturally aspirated model in the 997 range AT THAT TIME.......people want and expect constant Porsche evolution to improve the cars with every forward step and will except nothing less than a cutting edge Porsche product . I for one am delighted that they keep pushing the bar higher with each evolution and I can aspire to one day owning the best / latest GT2/3 on the planet

Porsche there is no substitute

I really hope they're not making this, purely because I'm not sure if my brain could handle the insane jealousy this car will cause. Hope it comes in manual too though. I've always thought the GT3 wold be an absolute weapon with PDK but it would take alot away from the driving experience, more so than in a turbo or regular 997.

Interesting, I doubt they struggle to shift them no matter what price. The next 911 is going to have to be out of this world good to better this one in my view. Best 911 since the air-cooled and by a long way too.
I agree not much will get near the feel of the current one and it will be a cult car in time

I think that's fantastic for those lucky enough being able to afford it. Plenty of power, engine note should be lovely too! Who needs a turbo, eh

Isn't the fact that, with those cars getting lighter and lighter, the engine is becoming an even greater proportion of the overall mass? I also assume that the 4.0L may be heavier itself, or actually lighter if the block is the same though.
I assume it's not too bad on track tyres but on "humble" road tyres ?
