Yes. It doesn't really need the hyphen, but it does make it explicitly clear that African-built is attributable to 'Citi Golf'. The point of such things is to make your meaning as clear as possible, and adding the hyphen removes any alternative interpretations of the phrase.

Might not seem important to you (and each to their own - and I wouldn't attack you for your approach to such things), but anything that makes meaning clearer is a good thing from my point of view (including, when appropriate, emoticons and abbreviations) HTH, etc.

Its a cool little car, but I don't think its particularly good value for money considering £950 would get you a very clean well specced MK3 or an early MK4. Neither will be as fun to drive obviously but they make the Citi Golf look a bit expensive. Nice SOTW anyway

The point is its only dullards like yourself on the internet, mainly on here and youtube, who actually care. when a UNIVERSITY doesnt bother with proper spelling and grammar in its corrospondants or lectures (spelling and grammar become pronunciation and enunciation) but some car website does how petty is that. same as not starting a sentance with a capitol letter doesnt remove any meaning from the sentance. unless your that much of a jobsworth that you cant read unless you have (metaphorically speaking) START and STOP at the beginning and end of some 150 word post on a forum?

Did it not occur it was done on purpose, to demonstrate the dynamic of the sentance is unaffected by fking capitol letters, full stops and commars. i already sat my GCSE english, i jumped through the hoops required of me to pass with an average grade (B) and so have absolutly no interest in adhering to what some outdated geezers seem to actually really care about on some internet site. Anyway - my point was, and I think it's very valid, is that if you want your comments to be read and understood, it's best to ensure they're readable - your original post which started this diversion would have taken too much effort to read and understand. Maybe it's just a st university? Most of the ones that I've dealt with have placed a fairly strong emphasis on spelling and grammar. I think the point is that if people can't be bothered to put some effort into what they type then why should anybody take it seriously?

Anyway back to the Golf.

I own a 1983 Mk1 Gold 4 door in fairly shiny condition, and like the light weight simplicity of the Mk1.

I had no idea they still made then in South Africa when I went there in 2007. Noticed one when I left the airport in Cape town in a dreary Toyota I'd hired, then another, then another, then I asked somebody and realised they still made them there.
In Cape Town it was not possible to count to 20 after seeing one before seeng another, they are everywhere, a cheap car for the masses.
It's nice to know that if you needed to fix an original mk1 you could source spares from SA although I know the front end is a bit altered.
Wish I'd hired one for comparison, the Toyota was truly awful.

I hope my spelling and punctuation was to an acceptable standard.

This looks decent enough and I remember seeing the even later versions with the more modern (pictured earlier in the thread) interior from elsewhere in the VAG, so for me certainly ticks the interesting box in SOTW requirements.

Like the idea of a "modernised" mk1 Golf, I think Clarkson uses the phrase "Georgian Mansion with modern plumbing" to describe such things. I think though to keep the whole lightness ethos, something like the latest 1.4 twin-charged engine in the current Polo GTi would be an interesting fit. Not sure about the DSG gearbox being ported across though no matter how smooth it is.

Also, the grammar/spelling debate is an amusing one. It's of my bugbears on many sites I visit though I tend to just roll my eyes rather than be prompted to actually put fingers to keyboard. Kind of just contradicted myself with this last paragraph though. Bugger

See thats roughly what i said in reply to the email i recieved from UWE, thier response was just some waffle about being rude to lecturers. It was a senior lecturer aswell. The fact is weather you read the Star, the Mail or the Gaurdian each is packed full of bad grammar and poor english so when national media and senior lecturers dont bother why should i. I dont even have to look too hard either to spot them, even the beloved Evo has missing words and incorrect spellings, my phone is in a name 'sort of' similar to mine because the tard behind the desk spelt it wrong. In a world where people who trade off the english langauge dont bother learning it properly whats the issue with the increasingly vigilant internet police honing in on PH and Youtube, why dont you give the people who are causing the decline in English the same greif?
