SPECIALIST CAR DEALER said:
HI PISTONHEADS HERE IS THE INSIDE TRACK AND TRUTH ON THE SUPPOSED RAC WARRANTIES FROM A DEALER WITH OVER THREE DECADES IN THE TRADE.
YOU ARE NOT BUYING OR BEING GIVEN A WARRANTY BY THE RAC WE ALL KNOW AS A HOUSEHOLD NAME ! BUT BY A COMPANY CALLED TWG SERVICES WHO SELL THE WARRANTIES USING THE RAC'S ESTABLISHED NAME TO GIVE THE PRODUCT CREDIBILITY.
AS AN RAC BUYSURE APPROVED DEALER THE BUSINESS MODEL IS GOOD AND SHOULD GIVE USED CAR CUSTOMERS CONFIDENCE AS THE WARRANTIES COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS ARE STRINGENT WITH ALL CARS ON THE APPROVED SCHEME HAVING TO BE PREPARED TO AN RAC STANDARD WITH COMPLETED PAPERWORK AVAILABLE FOR THE INSPECTORS TO VIEW WITHOUT NOTICE. THE DEALERS ARE CHARGED EXTRA TO BE ON THIS SCHEME.
ALL CARS MUST HAVE CURRENT MOT,SERVICED AND PREPARED TO A HIGH STANDARD.
NOW FOR THE SAD TRUTH !
WE WERE A BUYSURE APPROVED DEALER SUPPLYING OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS AT COST PRICE RAC WARRANTIES FOR APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS, WE SPENT OVER £50,000 ON THESE WARRANTIES AND TO OUR KNOWLEDGE HAD VERY FEW CLAIMS.
THE CLAIMS PROCESS IS NOT EASY FOR THE CUSTOMER NOR INDEPENDENT REPAIRERS, AS THE WARRANTY COMPANY WILL TRY TO AVOID PAYING OUT AT ALL COSTS AND MAKE THE PROCEDURE VERY DIFFICULT,RESULTING IN MANY WORKSHOPS REFUSING TO CARRY OUT ANY WORK ON BEHALF OF THE RAC.
WE HAVE SPENT THE LAST SIX MONTHS TRYING TO OBTAIN A LIST OF WARRANTY CLAIMS FROM THEM SO WE COULD MONITOR THE SERVICE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GIVING TO OUR CUSTOMERS, THIS HAS NOT BEEN FORTHCOMING WITH ENDLESS EXCUSES FROM THEM. LIKEWISE WE WERE OFFERED PAYMENT FOR TWO GOODWILL CLAIMS WHICH WE BELIEVE WERE GENUINE CLAIMS ANYWAY AMOUNTING TO OVER £1000.00!!! PROMISED BUT STILL NOT RECEIVED OVER EIGHT MONTHS LATER AND AFTER OURSELVES REIMBURSING THE CUSTOMERS.
IN SHORT AFTER BEING STRUNG ALONG, LIED TO AND MISLEAD BY THIS COMPANY WE HAD NO OPTION BUT TO CLOSE OUR ACCOUNT WITH TWG SERVICES. AFTER FIVE WEEKS THEY HAVE NOT EVEN BOTHERED TO CONTACT US,APOLOGISE OR TRIED TO APPEASE THE SITUATION.
I AM SURE WE ARE NOT THE ONLY DEALERSHIP TO HAVE BEEN TREATED THIS WAY BY WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A REPUTABLE COMPANY.
IT WILL NOT BE LONG BEFORE THE RAC REALISE THAT THEIR NAME IS BEING DRAGGED DOWN BY THIS COMPANY AND HOPEFULLY PULL THE PLUG ON THEM !!!!

Sorry if this is a bit of a necro, but I'm new here and couldn't find anything more upto date, so anyway...

You guys think its worth looking at dealers with these schemes in place?
I've seen a few while pootling around looking for a new car, and thought, hey, its an 84 (or whatever) point check
and might help the garage selling to make a bit more of an attempt to tart the cars up right.
Simple answer NO, all these warranty companies have decades of data. They have exclusions for all the most common faults. Think of it this way. It’s a business model that is stacked in their favour to make them money. Over the years I have tried to claim on 4 occasions and have never managed to get a claim authorised yet. Including a bmw 123d with a whining turbo. Diagnosed as bearing failure. The impeller was touching the casing of the turbo. The warranty companies response. The turbo hasn’t failed so it won’t be covered.

Apparently I had to wait for the turbo to fail completely. Problem was that if the turbo failed completely it would more than likely be ingested in to the engine causing massive damage. To top it off as I had reported the whine it would have then been a known issue that I had failed to repair and so not covered either. There all a bunch of robbing bds

I don't think I've heard anything good about the RAC warranty, from anyone....would mark and avoid it.

In contrast, the Aston Martin Approved Used warranty is outstanding - new wheel assembly, new engine, lumbar sensors, emissions sensor; all covered.

I bought a 66 vauxhall mokka from the trade Center uk with 83k miles on the clock. They convinced me that the RAC warranty was essential for a car with that mileage. So I took out a gold policy.

Long story short, 2 months after purchase the engine failed and it required a new engine. A further 2 months later the RAC came to the conclusion the vehicle had not been maintained or serviced appropriately and therefore rejected my claim. So I was left with a worthless car and no money to repair.

Another long story short, a few angry emails to the trade center uk and local newspapers, the RAC miraculously called this morning and said they will pay £3000 towards the repair of my car. Very strange indeed and although I’m now in a far better position than I was yesterday, I still feel they should be paying for the repair of my car and not giving me a pitty payment. The repair costs are definitely going to exceed 3k so why should I pay the rest?

They don’t even know what the replacement engine will cost yet so how can they decide how much to pay?

I thought this would be helpful to someone but also looking for some advice on what to do next.
