RE: SOTW: Reliant Scimitar GTE

Really don't understand the negativity
RWD - four wheels in contact with the road - workable running project car (unless I've missed something really major) - it's a nice colour - it's got slut mags......
Not a huge Ford fan so a 2.5 TD lump from BMW 525 (or cheaper Omega 2.5) would make it an econiomical runner (although personally I'd opt for the V6 Petrol as I'm not a huge diesel fan) Both conversions have already been done so info out there on the internets to help out
I can see nothing but WIN here - but for the fact I can't fit another car anywhere at BC manor it would be on my drive*

- Always better to buy first and take a bking from the better half afterwards than to discuss first and risk purchase intention be refused

The clutch gets sticky when the engine is warm.
Probably the clutch release bearing. Not the end of the world, assuming you can get to the clutch easily on these?I wouldn't buy one, but I'd have a quick look round it if it was parked up at a SS. I'd be intrigued to drive it, too.
I restored an early model with my Dad many years ago. piece of piss to work on due to the fact it's not really made of very much at all! The fibreglass was fairly shoddy and the chassis only takes a few minutes to sand blast and repair (or you could just use a B&Q ladder as a replacement...)
looked nice though
looked nice though
Just my personal, but I'd rather have this for a project.

Sure the coupe is even nicer but how often do you see them?

I was trying (and obviously failing) to point out that people telling you about the Princess Anne thing is bloody annoying. ie a terrible motoring cliche.
Please credit me with some integrity (not much, just a little )
Fair enough. I'm on a TopGearism witch hunt these days, leave me be and I'll soon tire myself out! A little integrity duly credited Please credit me with some integrity (not much, just a little )
I like these and have been toying with the idea of buying one as a run-about.
A mate's Dad used to drive us to school in his (circa 1992). It was two-tone beige / brown. Felt quick... compared to my Mum's Nissan Sunny anyway. He drove it like a loon until one day it turned up on the back of a low-loader - he lost the back end on a roundabout and wrote it off.
Happy memories of those trips to school though. Nostalgia - a wonderful thing.
Anyway - a proper PH shed! Good effort

You know what? I like that. How difficult would it be to dump a more suitable engine in it?
Like a Nissan/Renault 3.5 v6?
I'd be tempted to try and shoehorn the cossie 24v v6 out of the scorpio into it. In theory it should be a straight swap mechanically, just requiring an EFI tank and pump, new fuel lines, and wiring up. They're around 200hp iirc, which should give the plastic fantastic Scimitar plenty of shove!Like a Nissan/Renault 3.5 v6?
quite fancy doing that now... hmmm
God, that brings back memories. 4 of us did a lightning tour of Europe in one of these about 25 years ago - everyone said we'd break down before we got to Dover etc etc. The car never missed a beat in 4900 miles - I actually shed a tear or two when we arrived back home! Happy days.

I don't know about more modern engines, but the old Rover V8 could be made to fit, if that's any help.Like a Nissan/Renault 3.5 v6?
Might i add the 1968 version that the well known magazine tested was the 128bhp version that struggled to rev over 4.5k compared to the 71on revised motor that span up to over 5.5k and was far more eager, its only 10 bhp in the difference but the motor was far nicer, good shed by the way and the old Essex lump in my opinion is iconic.
