RE: SOTW: Reliant Scimitar GTE
Discussion
I remember one of these being parked up for years near where I used to live. Covered over by a blue tarp for all that time, but the shape was still distinguishable. Don't mind them myself, though the shooting brake/estate design did sometimes remind me of this at the time...
...but in the best possible way. Maybe it was the default BL door handles
For £500 as well, I think that's a bit of a steal for a car like that

Another one here who can't understand the negativity. There seems to be lots of "Well, I dont like it so obviously everyone that does is a moron" attitude on here lately...
Have always had a huge soft spot for one of these, and often wonder how much it would be to shove a decent engine in one and what it would actually handle like...

Nice SOTW, you have to watch out for rotten steel strengthening strips bonded into the FG shell in places. That's what makes them so heavy in places, and tricky to repair.
Prefer the SE5 shape to the later SE6, although they're definitely comming of age, IMO.
It's the only car I've driven that felt I immedeately connected with.

I'm sure there will always be a place in the world for a pig iron Ford V6 - Only one would be needed to keep a 40 ft boat in it's mooring even in a force 9 so bottom of any river would be great - but I wouldn't mind betting that a more modern all alloy V6 would improve the handling a lot.I say the same about Opel/Vauxhall Straight sixes BTW - big old lump of pig iron and best suited to a Boat anchor.....

God, this brings back memories!
My old man had several GTE's but his last was when I was around 7-8 years old (i'm 32 now). It was burgundy with a cream stripe painted down the side, bored out to 3.1, Ferrari carbs (??) and stainless twin pipes.
I still remember the days of being in the back, straddling the transmission tunnel, holding onto the back of the seats shouting "Go get him Dad" as someone 'dared' to overtake us! I also remember he spent nearly every living day under the bonnet either doing it up or fixing something, hence why I think my mum gave him the choice that one of his women was going to leave, he just had to decide which one! Women eh!
I'd love to find out what happened to that car. Sure the reg finished 456R (or 456E)

My mates dad has 2 of these shells (moss covered) in his garden and 2 x 3.0l v6 engines (probably ceased) in his garage. Always been a little disappointed he never got round to restoring them or using the engine in anythnig else.
Does your mate's dad live here?...http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&a...
(and have a Beetle, a Golf, something I can't quite identify, and if you 'travel' a bit further east you can see a 944 and a couple of Land Rovers covered in leaves too)
