I bought a 9-3 last week for shed money after loving my parents back in 2006.
I wondered if that was an offence.

It's surprising what difference a comma, used correctly, can make.

What's the story with parts now? I guess there are companies that can supply and there will be a lot of GM bits available, but say I bought a 2005 9-5 - is it a case of going to scrappy for a part or is the scarcity going to mean high costs?

Did they do something to upset you in 2007?
2008, but 2007 wasn’t ideal.

Or an apostrophe?

I've never had a problem with parts.

the sum total of my entire saab ownership was a 9-5 HOT with more miles on the back of a breakdown wagon than under its own power.

still quirky highly tuneable cars.

I really do need to scratch that 900 T16S itch sooner rather than later

Hey, what do you know, its back.

Nice to see this thread back and that people are beginning to discuss Saabs as classic cars. I would love to be able to invest in a 9-3 Aero preferably in black or a good 9-5 Aero auto Estate but no space or funds at the moment. I would probably give the 9-5 3.0 tdi (Belgrano) or the 9-3 Viggen Convertible (the wobblin' goblin) a miss though!

Truth be told all of this makes feel a little sad. I was a different person back then to a certain extent & not sure I could get the energy levels together to do something like this again. Still it was fun; translating articles from Swedish, getting encouragement from Garlick, checking out insanely hopeful Saab fan message boards & then getting threatened by some of their members. Plus receiving emails from people who used to work for the brand in UK at a level much higher than I did with stories of the unbuilt prototypes

9-5 Hatchback,9-3 Mk 1 'fixed head' Coupe. Basically that model convertible with the roof mechanism removed. Was going to be Saab's CLK and of course the Saab Speedster, the VX220 badged as Saab. The source told me at least one existed and was focus grouped positively and was weeks away from being signed off before GM changed their mind. Idiots, idiots.

Sorry if I've mentioned these before but its Sunday and its getting lateish and I don't want to go back through the thread, too many memories. That's the trouble with the internet, the good stuff you've done and the bad never really go away. All just opportunities you missed.

Absolutely.. truly special cars

If you got them . .. . You got them.

I loved all of mine
Very true. Only got my first one (a GM 9-5) when they were already in trouble. Feel I should have got into them 20 years earlier. Super quirky & interesting cars, fast and beautifully engineered. I miss them.

to be fair, the VX220 and the elise need a fair amount of tlc to keep on the road.
SAABs usually more tank like

Kindof feel I missed the boat with these, they are now at an age where I wouldn't be buying one as a commuter

Owned a dozen or more saabs, they gradually became just another car as their uniqueness was evermore diluted. I'd like an ng9-5 at some point though, big, handsome Beasties

Love them.

Will I be kicked off this thread for admitting to have once owned a Cadillac BLS?

getmecoat

Electrics failures, GM not supporting me after Cadillac left the UK (not illegal at all, but not dissimilar to a phoenixing builder in my opinion) and being refused parts by Saab garages notwithstanding (which is why I sold it!)... The car was decent, and a well-loved companion. It was pretty much a 9-3 on softer springs, perfect for the rough single track Irish roads I visited on a regular basis to see family.

I don't have space for it, but I still wistfully look at 9-3 Aeros in the classifieds. To my eyes, they've aged far better than one would expect. I might even forgive the handbrake for trapping my thumb intermittently.
