I'd reply totally honestly, i.e.
"It's been on eBay twice now- The first time with a couple of half-arsed and derisory offers, the second time for a reasonable price but the buyer had to pull out."
The above comment sounded genuine to me!
Thanks- It does sound the way to go. Will probably re-list at the weekend. "It's been on eBay twice now- The first time with a couple of half-arsed and derisory offers, the second time for a reasonable price but the buyer had to pull out."

Selling my volvo S40 last Sept - 140K mile 51 reg 1.8 sport with dents advertised for £999 (described as near perfect !!! LOL)
Me : Hi, I'm trying to sell an S40 and you are advertising a gearbox, my gearbox has just exploded, how much do you want for the gearbox.
Him : £300.
Me : Hummm. Listen, you break Volvo's right ?
Him : Yes
Me : save me a weekend fitting the gearbox and then having to readvertise it, do you want it?
Him : £350?
Me : Cash ? Tomorrow ? Okay.
This turned out to be the right decision as I never got one phone call about the bloody thing.

I'm selling my Impreza at the moment

So far, all the interest seems to have been genuine.
Looks nice, but i'm more than likely buying a similar shape (albeit a wagon) and age (53 plate) of car, with half that mileage for £4k tomorrow.http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2606232.htm

Completely standard right enough, but do mods really add value? Also it's a UK car, so cheaper to insure, with FSH and recent belt change.
There's no difference in insurance cost - as the advert says it is exactly the same as a UK car. It is a parallel import not a grey import.
Mods? Well if you take the cost from new:
ECU : £500
Exhaust : £250
Spring Kit : £200
Trackstar : £450
Audio : £750
Plate ; £400
So, that's £2,550 of value added to the car. Obviously I won't get that back when I sell it on but it's got to be worth something hasn't it?
honestly when looking at jap imports and the like I would pay very little more for a modified one over stock.
you can never tell how well mods have been done, and generally people lie about when they were done and how much they cost, and also the increase in performance!

If I had £2K free I would have made an offer.

Not my car but neighbour turned down a cash offer (wad of cash) of £6k on a car he was selling for £6,500 as he wanted a cheque.
4 months later he accepted £4k from a dealer.
You should have offered to act as a go-between, take the cash, give him a cheque (for slightly less of course).4 months later he accepted £4k from a dealer.

It'll sell eventually - you just need to be patient. Shame it is not a Sport as, for whatever reason, they seem to sell much faster.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

I don't know if people like me are rare, but I haven't seen anyone else in this thread mention this, so I will.
I hate haggling with a passion.
Selling and buying.
I wish *everyone* would just advertise with what would be the post haggled price they are happy with.
I'm selling my M3 ( http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2672100.htm ) and I've priced it at what I consider a low price, and which is basically the lowest price I'll take for it.
I'll drop £50 or so as we all like to feel good about a deal, and any money saved makes us feel good, but that's it.
It's priced "post haggle" and anyone who thinks they can knock the price down a lot can go buy one that drives like a few I test drove before I bought mine, i.e. like a canal boat through treacle.
Same goes for buying. If I'm looking for a car, I don't see one for £10k and automatically think they'll take £7.5k, I just ignore the ad and move onto the next one.
There again the type of people I buy from really look after their cars, and I do research the market first, so I guess I mostly buy from people like myself.

Please buy mine! I need it gone after my experience today with the aforementioned fairy.
Always fancied one of these.I'm tempted to say do you want to swap but I must reduce the car count

True, I have noticed that, although in reality there's not much different with the Sport- Just a different interior and slightly lowered suspension. And there are very few with the fullscreen Sat Nav. I have had a few nibbles, fingers crossed for this auction, all these listing fees are adding up
I think it is the larger wheels which does it (and the Recaro seats are quite nice). Problem with the Sport is that the A8's ride is already pretty marginal for a car of its class and the Sport makes things worse.tyranical said:

Scam much!
Dunno. Hello Mate, thanks for the response, i will like to buy the vehicle but as at now am at the sea due to my work as a Military officer, so i just want to know much about the vehicle and the present condition as MOT ..wait to hear back from you..
Scam much!
I have a few friends who are serving on the forces, they need cars when in the uk.
Try and get some supporting info from him but I'd say no more than 50/50 scam potential based on that.
If he remains evasive then it rises rapidly to 100%
