whence came the Reliant Scimitar from last week!
I'd kill to find an Austin Ambassador or princess etc, but they seem to be as rare as a hen-dentist finding work. If anybody spots some promising-looking flaky BL metal, do drop us an e-mail with the link....
My dad and uncle aquired one from a neighbour of my uncle, well the estate agent selling his house after he went into a home, estate agent wanted rid so for a nominal sum they got a low milage Ambassador in Gold, pretty much mint as had been garaged for a decade or more, some recommissioning and an MOT and stuck it in the Classic rags for £1200 and the phone went mad, could have sold it ten times over.I'd kill to find an Austin Ambassador or princess etc, but they seem to be as rare as a hen-dentist finding work. Sometimes, despite something being not all that good, generally despised by most there is always someone who wants it, if it sold new, it will sell second hand and sometimes despite it being by most measures, crap, sometimes I think we understimate nostalgia as a motivation. My grandad had a Princess 1800 HLS Back in 1978, bought new and then my mum had it, lots of memories surrounding that car so I always get a pnag when I see one (not often), not enough to buy one but I can see why someone would, for me its the MK1 Capri I suspect I may buy one day based mainly on Nostalgia.

What do you want for £800, great shed imo, why are people getting hung up about it not being a coupe, it's got 2 doorss, people are missing the point that for £800 you can buy a car that you can have huge amounts of fun with.
this is PH, pedantry mattersgreat shed, great value, probably great fun
not a coupe though as if it matters

I really like old BMW's, whiffy old 3 series being a particular favourite, just like to see some more esoteric stuff as well, come on, Austin Ambassador (Y Reg) next week, or a Talbot Tagora, the point is that the SOTW doesnt have to be any good, nobody is obliged to buy it, it is Shed of the week after all, not "Neo classic icon of the week", anything really desirable is usually a lot more than the notional grand so sometimes, may as well go totally the opposite way, I find it reassuring that somewhere, some poor sod is keeping a crumbling Renault 30 or Fiat 132 going against all the odds.
There, get me, telling PH how to do SOTW
"My Austin Ambassador Y reg, Y reg Y reg, don't keep asking me why Reg- it just happens to be that year!"There, get me, telling PH how to do SOTW
I had an old (1988/9)325i Touring that I sold in 2008 with 190,000 miles on it. It was my second car, so naturally, I kicked the f**k out of it daily and even checked the oil once. I checked on Ask MID not so long ago and it's still insured, so I assume still running with maybe 200k on it? It was quicker than my current 328i too.
So to those who say that it is on it's last legs, I say provided you don't take any care of it, don't service it, and remember that new rear tyres and brakes are for pu**ies, it'll run forever.
If you'd like any more information on the 'Ian System of Anti Maintenance' please do nothing.
