This thread is, without question, the funniest I have ever seen on Pistonheads!!!! Brilliant!

and even better, no one as, yet, recommended a BMW or written 'that wouldn't have happened in a 320d' (nasally voice mode off)

To be fair, I've ridden in less well-driven taxis.

I can only assume he kept his foot on the pedel after the initial off-road experience? Thank goodness he didn't hit anyone or anything important!
With those tyres even with the brake pedal to the floor I don't think there was anything to be done. Maybe there was a problem before he went through the hedge, but he must have been going damn fast to get that far off road.
You think tread on a road tyre would of helped 'cross country'? I doubt it!!

fk knows how he managed to go that far!? The way the first hedge has folded over and sprung straight back into place is quite amusing biggrin

Look at the tyre marks where he left the road. There are only two parallel tracks (and not much sign of heavy braking). How did he leave the road at what looks like 45 degrees with the steering seemingly straight. Is there a junction behind the camera?

Tyres are weird... no pattern at all on the outside but you can see the wear indicators and there actually seems to be quite a bit of depth.

However it happened, the cab driver must have been driving like an utter gentleman's appendage - and the better the tyres, the worse the driving needed to get into that situation.

Great story! The entry point into the hedge at about 30 degrees has no accompanying skid marks on the tarmac. No marks at all in fact. Is this just after a huge right-hander or something? Looks very odd to me. The tyre picture shows a full tread pattern and depth across its width. No question about the quality but, unless I'm missing something, it's probably legal.

BTW your lawn needs a roll and a few conditioning cuts and loads of washing up water thrown on it for the oil!

A taxi driver ended up in the front garden of a work colleague of mine just before Christmas in the early hours of the morning when it was snowing heavily. She was asleep in a room at the back of the house and never even woke up. She only found the carnage the next morning. Her neighbour said the driver got out of the car stinking drunk and wearing only a T-shirt and shorts despite the temperature being below zero. What's scary though is the guy who lived nextdoor to her was killed when he was out in his front garden and a car came off the road and hit him.

Should have gone to Specsavers judging by his driving and his dress sense. Come to think of it, he seems to be wearing identical trousers to the lady in the third pic.

Those tyres reminded me of this:

which is a Michelin Aero tyre!

OP, what brand were those taxi tyres?

The BBC booked a few of us a prepaid taxi from Soho back to our student halls in Kingston as part of a 'student life' thing they did for BBC Three that we were in.

4.45am, raining, empty roads, prepaid so the quicker the better for him. It was fking terrifying.

No idea of the brand, they were pretty smooth all over, I will have another look in the morning, its dumped in the field still, the lifting strap broke while the fork lift had it 6 feet in the air, but I guess the suspension was shot anyway. No junction or bend where left the road, claims he was avoiding a white van which was across the white line. " I am gonna find that white van" said the driver. mmm good luck with that then, they are quite rare!
