You know you want to... Lamborghini LM002
Paid-up OPEC members or power crazed revolutionaries only need apply
It seems only right to point out that these vehicles have a 290 litre fuel tank. So, with petrol at approximately £1.35 per litre that'll be £391.50 to fill it up. Once full the tank will weigh 208 Kilos (that's getting on for the weight of three adults), and if you drove it like Miss Daisy was in the back and managed 10mpg, your £391.50 would get you just over 600 miles before your next fill-up. If you did 10,000 miles in a year it would have cost you over six and a half grand in fuel alone. Tyres (which are probably £500 a throw, if you can find any) and servicing go on top of that...
However, if you were driving it across a desert as it was intended (probably on your way to carry out a military coup), you'd be doing well to get much more than 5mpg. Oh and we're talking about the 5.2 litre version. The 7.2 litre model might not be as frugal... Then again, the government you'd be about to overthrow would probably have plenty of oil reserves so maybe we're making too much of an issue out of this?
This 1987 LM002 is advertised at a classic car dealer in Manchester and has been part of a private collection for 17 years. Its owner used it little in that time and describes the Lambo as being in 'near concours' condition.
He also tells us that this particular LM002 was tuned by Koenig. It's another hard vehicle to value (they made over 300, although nobody seems to know exactly how many), but £39,995 doesn't seem unrealistic. The question is; what should you fit on the back - a grenade launcher or a machine gun?
