Love this SOTW, so much car for the money. These have been on my want list for a while now, definitely want one on the drive in the next few months.

I'd walk away and find a better shed.
Not well acquainted enough to realise that's not what we're doing here.

If SOTW was to find 'worthy, dull but runs forever' cars then there's be an E Class here every week and no-one would give a damn...

This is about finding something different for not much money - even if the car on offer isn't quite ideal, I'm sure people take the idea and run with it to find another car/one closer to them/one in better nick.

You learn NOTHING about a car from the advert anyway - people who are scared off by words in an ad miss all the best deals, the only true way to measure the worth of a deal is to kick it's tyres (pref. not actually do that - but get that close!!)

These are the biggest heap of fking st around, everyone who owns one think they are great, they are are just some old bds car with a poorly developed engine. For 1k it better have a full tank of petrol.
Oh dear...your knowledge of cars really is very limited indeed isn't it.

I merely gave my opinion of the shed, it differs from yours and it seems quite a few others, that's fine, keeps the world an interesting place smile

That is a fine choice.

X300s are very well built, have bullet proof running gear, are relatively easy to fix, and have a vast array of cheap parts available.

Plus they are very special cars.

Lets be serious for a minute Adam. I know you're a student and probably like being 'edgy' and 'out there', but you're clearly spouting bks here.

If I was in the market for a shed for around a grand, this wouldn't be on my list. At all. Ever.

You may as well lube up before taking it to the garage for an mot. But then I've never trusted jag's. However, the F-Type is pure sex (although I got bored of waiting a long, long time ago).
My brother's had several jags between 6 and 40 years old and my father's owned his XJ8 for ten years. They've been pretty good. Actually the XJ8's been excellent and even the 40 year old MK10 always started.

Something without any history will be a risk and if you're going to run any old car to "new" standards expect it to be very expensive. On the other hand if you can DIY or you've got a friendly specialist adept at keeping old cars running it shouldn't cost any more over three years than a lot of new cars which will lose half their value in that time. 3 grand a year pays a lot of bills...

If you are seriously interested in buying a car but have concerns about its short remaining MOT, the best thing to do is ask the owner if you can take it away for an MOT test. (You can often find a garage doing tests for about £30).

Walk away if he says 'No'. If he doesn't mind, take it for the test and based on the result, return the car to owner either with a cash offer or say, 'No thanks, there's too much wrong with it'.
Don't post here often but read every week. If I had the bottle for the MPG and wasn't such a tightwad I would go for something like this and the quote above sums up perfectly. Go look, if unsure take for a cheap test.

Such beautiful cars.
That infinite side profile and exquisite rear end detailing in particular.

Unfortunately I can't afford the obligatory gravel driveway for it to sit on.

Although it'll be easier to sweep up the rust flakes from a tarmac / paved drive.

Great SOTW.

I love this one if you put it back on stock wheels http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2679704.htm

Love the advert, very 'British' hehe

My X300 3.2 has cost no more to run my previous Rover 600, I do most of my own maintenance and 'pattern' parts are a lot cheaper than original Jag spares smile

Well this is my first post on pistonheads, and what a topic to reply to!
i just read all of this thread, and it did make me laugh......
SOTW is just what it is,and for a grand its well worth the fun value...just the sort of barge you buy to drive, have fun then flog on,in whichever form you wish(as a whole/break/give to a bank robber)
Best not to get too anal about it eh,its not a prestige car, just a bit of fun........just give a thought to the guy who owns the car,its probably not as bad as its being made out to be,believe me i've travelled miles to see more expensive and worse condition sheds than this, that the owner had an over inflated opinion of....
This is one shed i would love to play with!!

That probably says more about the Rover than it does about the Jag... wink

The Rover was a great car, I sold it to my brother 3 years ago and it is still going strong driving
