My god man...You have a missus encouraging you to go look at a sub £1k Jag? Does she have an attractive sister in her early 20's!?
Yes, but her sister only likes sonorous V8's. (I'm not joking!)

Lets just cut to the chase...

These are the biggest heap of fking st around, everyone who owns one think they are great, they are are just some old bds car with a poorly developed engine. For 1k it better have a full tank of petrol.
From someone who has a fantasy garage, has owned nothing previously and currently owns nothing - thanks chap I'll take your viewpoint on board
Well said sir
Agreed. I think poor Melvster (cool nickname, you goon) must be high on whacky backy. Melv, dude, were you drunk when you typed that to be cool and get a reaction? Coz you did, you got rinsed son! rofl

I bought this Jag, got it for £750 and it was a bargain, picked it up from Brighton and drove 280 miles home and it didn't miss a beat. Not bothered by tatty body as all I want it for is the engine, gearbox & running gear as it's all going in a 2002 SWB transit, I've got my work cut out making it all fit but going to start at weekend. Was going to go with Jag V8 but to much money to chop up for donnor car, plus the striaght six is more reliable.
It pulls like a train and would have only nedded front suspension bushes for MOT, everything works on the car as it should and apart from being a but tatty it's a great car.

Sounds like he's got a great project going there, however if I'm reading his post correctly he's managed to drive the car 280 miles. Hardly a vindication of it's reliability. The purchaser obviously knows their stuff when it comes to spannering, however I still maintain that buying this as a daily/weekend car would see you spending a fair bit money on it very quickly if you weren't particularly handy yourself.

Sorry for dragging this up, ok i did act childish in my post and probably should have made my argument more clearly.

Firstly though, thanks to some of you who said "i bet you know nothing about cars" really? ok then, how come i have managed to get to the final 4 for the Ferrari Technician apprenticeship out of wait for it, 516 applicants and that is honest truth. I would say i have a good knowledge of cars and people that know me respect my knowledge.

I will make it clear now, i am not a Jag fan at all, have never seen the attraction with them whatsoever but there is a saying "horses for courses", if we all liked the same thing(s) then the world would be a boring place.

I cant remember your user name but the person who said "i bet you have never experienced any of the cars you dream about" well again, your wrong, gained 14 weeks work experience at JMH Ferrari & Porsche specialist and was fortunate enough to experience some of the finest cars ever built including many Ferrari's such as 355, 360, 430, 550 Maranello etc and Porsche's such as 911 Turbo, Carrera's and Boxster's etc.

So to sum up, sorry to those people who i may of offended, they maybe great cars but like i stated, never seen the attraction, i am a true petrol head but on this occasion let myself down badly and showed how immature i was.

I am not looking for a sob story but all i want to say is, causing arguments/debates on a car forum is quite low as you can not directly speak to the people you are trying to annoy. Sorry fellow Pistonheaders i take full responsibility in acting like a tt.

Well done young man - nice follow up to what wasn't the greatest post ever wink

I try and sometimes fail to follow my own rule which is "Can't contribute positively - don't contribute"

Anyway if we all like the same stuff what would the world be like!!!

Could not agree more at the end of the day Pistonheads is all about sharing views/opinions and information in a controlled positive manner.
