Didn't think I'd be seeing an accord type r in the shed of the week for a while, quite sad really. Mad selling it that cheap!

Absolutely. I'll have one of those at some point, without a doubt.

If the engine light was a simple fix he would have fixed it. When we have RX8 threads someone always complains about how bad using 1 litre of oil every 1000 miles is scratchchin

According to the last issue, I think that accolade was reserved for the ITR DC2......the ATR is described by them as "one of the finest"

Hmm

I can see how this could be a tempting proposition for a SOTW.

Equally though, I think I'd rather spend a little more and get a slightly better one. Having said that, there's not actually THAT much wrong with it for a grand...

Honda, why don't you sell a car like this now?
Indeed - it's been an absolute tragedy watching Honda slowly throw all that good work and good will out the window and revert back to being a old farts manufacturer. The stricter exhaust emission controls probably didn't help much with the Type R's - but still, I am still completely confused with the direction Honda has taken in the past 5 years.
Don't - we all are!

To a certain extent, the Accord/TSX is now too damnably big and heavy (as are most moderns) to work in the same manner. Ok, 4WS or SH-AWD or even RWD could have fixed that.

But Honda seems to have shied away from BMW, Ferrari etc and moved towards Hyundai/Kia and undone all the good work.

Talk about throwing out the bath with the sprog & the dirty water...

This old ATR could be a collectible museum piece pretty damned soon!

Love Hondas, especially of the 2 wheeled variety. Shame I don't hae the cash and am so far away from the vendor. Worth a punt at a Grand. My brother is a Mechanic so never any trouble there. Nearly trade my CBR600 for a lovely 5th Gen Vtech Prelude 2.2 but it wasn't meant to be. No matter how much I want a Vtech car, I could not afford to run one. Running a CBR600 and a 1.4 Pug 306 is enough, can't even run the Pug at the moment with prices of fuel.
Nice honest advert from the Vendor.

Should add, does anyone know about this oil use issue?

I had a 2.2VTi Prelude which I believe uses a version of this engine, it had nearly 130K miles on it and didn't use a drop.

A lovely shed. As an ownership proposition, the ATR does very little wrong IMHO - reliable, quick, practical, cheap to run, etc.

Thing is that worthwhile examples of the ATR (even those which have covered 130k miles) sell for more than £1000, so this one must be in a bad way (notwithstanding what's stated in the advertisement).

They did do a later Accord R but it was the Euro R & of course not available here.

Also what happened to the guy on here that was fitting the massive Turbo to one (original ones not Euro R)
It looked a great project smile

Has similar issues with my DC2 integra, was down to the valve stem seals leaking oil. Will continue to do so unless you open up the top or it dies of oil starvation. Not sure if it's the same problem - dc2 is a b-series engine I thought these were H?

The Recaros in there are worth 250 notes regardless of condition.

These have a version of the H22 I believe so a different engine than your DC2. I didn't read anything about oil use being a problem on the Prelude forums.

Assuming you pay to get the bits sorted - O2 sensors and/or CAT, front splitter, assuming it's not piston rings and just needs new valve stem seals - how much does it costs to replace them?, new antenna - you're looking at another grand so it's not really that cheap.

I've just downgraded from a Scoob to a 2 ltr iVTEC Accord. I'd imagine a spiced up type R version would be a terrifying prospect if the chassis is as bad as mine. As far as I can tell, the VTEC system is just there to make the engine note change at high revs. The less said about the feel, or lack thereof from the steering, the better. I thought about upgrading the motor in mine when I picked it up, having driven it a bit more, I've changed my mind.
