Mk1, no thrills, and an absolute bargain considering spec and service history. Name a 4door fwd motor that corners like that does. Always turned me nose up at MG but this car gets the basics right
Alfa 155. MUCH better. And I've driven both.the rover was a 2 week old variety when it had just been launched and a 4 year old 155 p****d all over it on the handling stakes. And everything else.

Just picked one up as a runabout. Best fwd handling car I have ever driven, the engine note and performance is no slouch. Such an underrated car, anyone else agree?
I hope you're not expecting fuel economy from you runabouts! mmmmmmm, V8 are they? On the note, I think the Accord Type R might handle a bit better being a 4 dr FWD. By no means am I disagreeing with you, I think the ZS 180 are tidy motors. I am a fan of Rover and MG's though.

V6 - I get over 30 mpg on my commute. On the note, I think the Accord Type R might handle a bit better being a 4 dr FWD. By no means am I disagreeing with you, I think the ZS 180 are tidy motors. I am a fan of Rover and MG's though.
Zs 180 is a 2.5V6
I had a brand new one in 2001. I have to agree - it was the best fwd car I've ever driven. I haven't driven everything though.
Grip levels were great, plus somehow the wheelbase length just seemed to work for me
Mine was on Michelins new from factory
Loved it - even if it was yellow

I know someone who, when his b!tch of a missus binned him and went back to Belgium or whatever, all he managed to walk away from the relationship with was HER Integra that he bought for her.
He sold it and got a mark 2 v6 one of those instead. Guess what, he rated the MG higher, just simply a better all rounder.
Biggest killer was the bill he got for getting the belts done when it was time. Can't remember how much, just hell, not cheap.
SO yeah, under rated? I think the whole ZS/ZT range were actually.

Didn't that car result in some fairly significant plod related disagreements though mate? I had a brand new one in 2001. I have to agree - it was the best fwd car I've ever driven. I haven't driven everything though.

I like the ZS180, it sounds fab and grips like buggery for a FWD car with such humble underpinnings. It made me wonder what the chassis engineers would have produced with a decent budget and a better base to build on.
Despite being quick through corners though I can't say it is the best handling car I have ever driven, it just seems to grip which gets boring after a while.
