I ordered a Golf R in December last year.

I got sick of waiting in March and picked up a dealer spec car.

I have heard from the original dealer that my car was scheduled to be built in August/September this year.

£6000 is the figure you will pay for a bottom of the range 3dr flat paint C1/ 107 after discounts negotiations etc.

For an Aygo or a better equipped 5dr C1/ 107 the list prices are around the £10k mark.
Local pug dealer is offering base sounding 3door 107s for £6495 before any haggling has taken place.

Lets count the number of Bosch factories in Japan, shall we?
Can we go over there like a field trip? We could stop somewhere for a few beers on the way.
I'm in tongue out
Road trip!

(I'm going in November anyway...)

Working within this industry you would be suprised the impact the earthquake has had to European manufacturers - as someone has already stated just one parts shortage can stop production. We are sill having second tier Japan issues coming out of the woodwork. Chips in autoboxes I have heard is hurting the German companies.

With full orderboards this will move delivery dates out much further; we aren't even commiting to a date to deliver for a new order, we just don't know.

Whilst fustrating companies aren't doing this lightly as its obviously less turnover with possibility of job losses.

A friend took delivery of Audi A6 just before the '11' plates arrived, a full 10 months after he ordered it. Nothing special, a 2.0TDi manual estate, it wasn't base spec and had no options, Audi must sell thousands of them but it still took 10 months, and this was before the Japanese earthquake.

Toyota Aygo ICE before extra's comes in at 10.7k.

Why do they think putting on a different colour paint, a sat nav (really come on) and 'bluetooth' will make people think its worth that much?

2006 Aygo+ with Air con, 16,000 miles. £9995 at my local main dealer!

Missus bought a new base spec (still has air con) i10 in December for 6k.

Actually... I don't get that Aygo. Just priced up a new one and it's coming to £9,596 brand new (in white)!?

yes

Mine was ordered in November and arrived on the first week of April...

Again, nothing fancy just a Golf in SE spec with no extras.

It's the run of the mill here in Germany - a friend here ordered a nothing-out-of-the-ordinary Golf and was initially told 3 months, then 6 months and then eventually told that they had no clue and could be more than 8 months.
That's intersting because it's often said that the delays are due to manufacturers favouring Euro markets as they get much more for the cars there, and that selling cars in the UK is killing them.

Yet I asked a PHer who lives in France and delivery delays are long there too.

Lets not forget the Jazz's production was moved to China.
Honda Swindon has just geared up to make the new Jazz.
Well, it was actually 18mths ago that Jazz started to be made in Swindon. Before that the current model was made in Japan.

The last couple of years of the last model were assembled in China.

Our Golf was ordered on 6th March 2011 and collected on 16th March 2011. If we'd been pushed they could have done it on the 11th.

I guess your's is a company car, but for private use I just can't conceive of waiting 6mths+.

I was told this about new Aygo's. Now correct me if I am wrong they are built in Europe with most of the common parts sourced from 1st and 2nd tier suppliers LOCALLY.

RE: Audi/Merc/BMW- yeah, how many suppliers for these companies manufacturer in Japan? Sod off.
I would imagine even the Germans use Japanese electronics??
Don't forget that if any component sub component etc comes from Japan then it will have been affected.

Hitachi make 60% of the world's supply of the chips that go in MAF sensors in a factory in Japan which was damaged by the earthquake.

And they just throwing the ings together.

Certainly that's the impression I got from the entry in the owner's manual for an '10 plate car last weekend...

A mate was visitng in a hired Passat and had a fuse go. We both perused the manual and were appalled to find words to the effect of "we're too busy and or cannot be arsed at this stage to provide a fuse diagram."

Thought these Germanic types were supposed to be organised. Or are they being made by Fiat now?

Wow, that must be one of the most overpriced used cars in the country! Utterly ridiculous price, more than double what CAP say its worth with that mileage.

Something weird there - that car doesn't come up on a serch of the dealers site and they've got others at more normal prices.

I posted the original question... and live in France. It's seem to be 6 months minimum delay everywhere in the world.

I sat with the Mercedes local dealer as he opened up the French build pipeline on his PC. Every car for the next 5 months was allocated to a customer. What happened to the good old days when dealers were pre-ordering popular spec cars like crazy to hit their incentives? Seems to have gone.

Seems bonkers to me. US buyers wouldn't stand for it - they expect to be able to buy and drive away same day.

Pick a random US dealer and look at the inventory they have - this one is in Minneapolis so they're all 4Matic http://www.feldmannmercedes.com Oh, and weep at the lease prices they get!

You cant order stock if there is no factory availability. I am sure a dealer would order as many cars as he could if the factory let him...

Ah, that'll be to avoid the Yen/£ then. The productions shifted on the old Jazz in 2007 to China.
The Jazz wasn't made in China. Production stopped in Japan in the summer of 2009 and was started up in Swindon as soon after. A friend has one of the last Japanese models.
