I don't think they look particularly good in black. There's a black Cayman parked a few metres away from me, and compared to my Dad's meteor grey S it looks decidedly dull.
Love it when people with grey Porsches label black ones as dull!SS7

I still don't understand why Porsche keep making these tiny changes and calling it a special edition??
If they're going to do a limited run special, in my books it needs to have something properly special about it. Like 100 more horsepower, a 10k rev limit or KERs or something.. 10bhp?! what's the bloody point?!

This is the Cayman R that most people will spec
I'm surprised more people didn't latch on to this. The R is for a few magazines and chisel jawed types who want to drive a daily car without the luxuries. Porsche know that most prospective £50K customers want the toys.It amazes me people come up with 'magazine/chisel jaw types' statements which are so wide of the mark, without driving the model they're commenting on, get out and drive one to make an informed decision.
Me I'm waiting to try the Spyder.

I test drove the Cayman R last weekend (wanted to drive the Spyder but this was the nearest they had). Stunning drive, it was very compliant, the buckets are comfortable and great sound. It demo had a fair bit of kit sat nav, air con etc but it's the best Cayman I've driven and actually the best new Porsche I've driven for a while. If I was getting a Cayman this would be the model to go for.

Which OPC has a demo R available? I have an extended test drive of the Spyder but would like to try the R too.It amazes me people come up with 'magazine/chisel jaw types' statements which are so wide of the mark, without driving the model they're commenting on, get out and drive one to make an informed decision.

The Spyder is superb. It was after driving a Spyder for a week last year that I knew I wanted a Cayman R as soon as it was announced. The handling and road manners on the Spyder are very similar to what you would have experienced in the Cayman R, but there's even more of that intoxicating engine/exhaust sound! Theoretically the Cayman R should handle better by virtue of it being a hard top, but I think you'd have to drive both cars back to back to notice.
The downside with the Spyder is the amount of wind noise you get with the roof up, and, no matter what anyone says, it is something of a pain to get on and off.
If I lived somewhere warm I would buy a Spyder and just leave the roof off, but for the UK, the Cayman R seemed like a better bet.
Firstly I certainly don’t have £50k to buy one however I would says £50k for that spec and level of performance is quite fair.
When the Boxster was first launched 15 years ago with just 200bhp it cost about £40k (with leather, air con cd player and other options that are now standard on all models), in today’s money that’s probably equivalent to £60k. So as Porsche sell more cars buyers are getting more for their money than they ever have before, and they are getting cheaper in real terms.
I personally think the black wheels black paint looks great too, although may date badly compared to more timeless colour combinations.
