Alfa 75 appreciation society
Discussion
The 75 has the dubious accolade of being the only car I have ever spun on a public road! I was only 18 in my mother's then 2 year old 1991 Twin Spark.
My old man had one of the first 3.0 V6s in the UK, an 87/E in Red supplied by Cubleys of Ainsdale, this caught fire while garaged in early 1990 and nearly burnt our house down with us in it! Faulty heated rear window was the apparent cause.
Over the years my father indulged his RWD Alfa appettite by forcing my mother to drive them while he had a succession of 164s. After the above mentionned TS I remember him having one of the last 3.0 Cloverleafs, again from Cubleys, in Pewter Grey, can't remember if it was K814 or K816LDM there seemed to be a run of cars registered with K8** LDM. That was an awesome car, I still remember the CAR group test where it kinda beat the then new BMW 325i SE.
One thing I remember was my dad always took the thick plastic washers out from the rear of the front seat mounting and doubled up the front ones thus tilting the seat upwards at the front, he also had the accelerator pedal altered as he used to get chronic ankle ache. The glovebox that acted as an accelerometer also amused me.

My old 1.8.
Possibly the last proper car ever built. Right wheel drive, carbies, keep fit steering, analogue windows - lovely.
Used it every day, did the 'ring, won the '09 ASEMC class 3 trials championship with it, even drove a winter of snow without stuffing it.
It's now in a lock-up near me being chav'd up by a local yoof - shame...
the good ones are becoming hard to find - sepecially since everyone seems keen on breaking the twinsparks to dontae their engines to Twinspark Giulia projects!
I'd love another twinspark - much nicer to blat around b roads than a 3.0 V6 - but these are getting rare now.
Dont get me wrong i love the V6, & have had 2 very nice ones. The sound is hard to beat. But I love the balence of the TS.
GTVince has somehow got a photo of my old 3.0 with teardrop front wings on his website;

Having just bought another 75 after nearly 9 years without one, I managed to find a picky of my old black 3 litre
Funnily enough the new purchase is also another 3litre, and strangely similar (not the same).
Then there's the ex touring car racer that my mate is currently restoring. Here it is on way to his house after being picked up, then part way through restoration.

Been driving these on and off since they were new cars, here's my first one in 1988-
and here's the current one-
Love them to bits despite their (many) faults.
Good for you! I had a couple of 116 Giulietta's that I still miss; want to get an early 1.8 75 on carbs but don't have an excuse, nor the space.and here's the current one-

Those early cars without the plastic arches were quite handsome weren't they? I colour coded the grey parts of the bumper but left the top half black and replaced the stupid 13 inch wheels with Alfetta 14 inch steels and Giulietta centre caps. Can't help feeling that if they'd made all the twincam look like this they'd have sold a load more. The only other mod I did was to disconnect the TPS to stop the LED economy gauge working.
As for Jamie's original post, I find that the thing that stumps most passengers is finding the door handle to get out?
