Was rung tonight by the buyer from the company I bought my Gen 1 GT3RS from 11/2yrs ago wanting to buy it back.Apparently there are hardly any around for sale and they are being hung onto as the last of the manuals.Really doesn't say a lot about the 991.

The manual gearbox is very near the end of its life in any car. Another 5 years tops.

As the ever creeping electronic controls take over, the driver will become more detached and taken away from the responsibility of control near the limit. And that will eventually include steering too.

Some welcome this with open arms, because computers are better at this stuff than humans. And faster is better. On paper anyway.

Most are going along with this progress and will continue to do so. But there will be an increasing number of drivers who at some point will have the light bulb moment of - this car is now cleverer than me, whats the point? Im bored.

These people will seek out their thrills with older 'dangerous' cars. Some already are.

I have had the same in the last month, 2 dealers asking if I would sell them my RS.
I would only sell it if there was something better available, and in my view at the moment there isn't. I guess a few people must feel the same way.

Its certainally how I feel about my 997.1 GT3

The reality is its a £60k car and there is nothing out there that remotely appeals to me.....apart from a 997.2 GT3 RS but that is twice the price!!!

I honestly believe Porsche reached a zenith with the 996 and 997 GT3s. the chassis is easily tweaked to suit you, the gearbox is precise and saisfying to use and the Mezger engine is a truly magnificent thing.

If you have one, you are very lucky indeed and I dont think we will never see their like again, which is sad really.

Definately seem to be going one way at the moment - albeit very slowly. Are we saying these could enter the hall of fame for all time greats....?

No plans to sell mine. I've been away on holiday for the past two weeks, after 7 day's I was itching to drive it. I did spot a couple of GT3's where I was, so that didn't help. Roll on tomorrow!

It's an interesting point.
Although I personally love the look and shape of the GT3s (996 for me), they are not inherently everyone's pretty car.
Therefore the attraction is less to do with the beauty of the car, but more the drivability of it.
This is also a function of credible alternatives...and at each price point there are very few.
Therefore most owners have no intention of selling theirs.

+1

GT3 is not a car which my eyes linger over.

It's all about the driving experience.

I was at OPC Swindon on Tuesday, is it just me or does the 991 look massive compared to previous models?
To my eyes at least, it does seem more now a tourer than sportscar.

Agree Wozy, the 991 is huuuge and looks ungainly. Am happy to keep my manual 996 4S for ever, there's nothing else out there I'd want.

The 991 is wider than the last S-class Merc. It has over evolved in my opinion, perhaps in order to attract an increased market. Look how many Stradale and Scud Ferraris are on the market at the moment and how many 997 GT3RS. It is the end of an era and I think the GT3 could continue to seriously escalate in value.
