Just perusing the Exclusive 911 brochure for my car and noticed this.

Never knew this was possible on the 997.1 with PCM2.1, which is why I just shelled out £895 for a Mobridge solution.

Anyone heard of this option and know how it integrates?

I am not 100% on this but I believe it was just a wired in FM transmitter type. Crap in other words.

Yup, crap. their rushed solution was for an FM modulator that simply sent the signal over the FM radio band. Mobridge/Dension and others are a far better solution and can be had for cheap on fleabay with installation all of 30 mins.

Excellent thanks both, that's a relief

Although not sure about your installation time, I watched 2 experienced guys take 1.5 hours to remove a parrot and replace and test the Mobridge. No cups if tea consumed either.

Worth remembering that if you fit a Mobridge/Dension it will void your Porsche warranty (If you have one). It's what puts me off and keeps my buying those silver discs (Not strictly true, I like having a physical copy of my music).

True but I don't have one, and don't intend to buy one as my turbo has the Mezger GT1 engine - will stick the cash into a slush fund instead.

The Mobridge adds bluetooth, and handsfree is a legal requirement in UK if you want to use a phone, so in my view the Porsche policy is OTT and dangerous.

I am sure their warranty terms win in a legal situation, although if your engine went pop I question from a customer service / reputation / PR perpsective they would deny a claim. You can imagine the headline:

"Porsche renege on warranty for £20k engine because loyal owner fitted BT so he could comply with UK law and drive dangerously"

Not entirely true. Porsche Australia Dealers were selling them as an approved accessory. The webpage has been removed now, but here is a cached link to it.

Fair enough. Your call. Lots to go wrong with a 911 regardless of the engine and £1200 doesn't go far at £100 p/h.

I need BT in my car though

Never understood why Porsche didn't embrace mobridge solution.. they could have done 2 tests on it.. put a Porsche logo on it... priced it at 1k and everybody would have bought it regardless.. I just don't understand how they can be so stubborn..

I've got the Porsche option in my 997 Turbo, it's not completely rubbish.
Almost, but not quite.
It plays back just fine, no radio interference issues at all - including north and central London where I'm based.

Caveats are no charging for iPhone 5 and you can't control from the PCM.
But, if like me you just want to hear some music it works very well, plus no issues with the car's warranty.

More bafflingly was their persistence with the crap SIM phone solutions when 3/4 years earlier you could get a proper BT solution in a Ford Fiesta

Does the Denison installation look messy, or is it all behind the scenes?

Also, does it disable the cd changer and single cd in dash?

I have never understood why Porsche don't allow people to fit a Pioneer, Kenwood or similar double din unit. These were allowed in Japan and people had the option of which unit to fit. The 997 parts catalogue includes the japan options of bevel surround etc. to claim that people elsewhere shouldn't be able to fit such units for fear of not being able to claim on a warranty is a tad disingenuous.

Nope, I bought it last November, and was very happy to discover it had this option fitted, assume from new.

Can't physically see it at all on my 997T.

it didn't come with the CD changer originally from the factory so not sure how it affects that, but I believe you can have the denison and a CD changer.

you would question whether you need the CD changer if you have the denison ipod connector though given that the the standard CD player plays MP3s.

that said, the menu system to control the ipod or iphone through the denison thru pcm2.1 is a real paff.

porsche aren't good on ICE

Had this on the cayenne think the former owner had paid £1k for retrofit, looked nice but not worth it imo
