i am also surprised at the prices being asked, but i view it as a reflection of the current limited supply. however to me the beauty of these cars (GT3's) is that they are civilised enough for road use and strong enough for track use. if the values firm too far then it kills half of their appeal in my mind. not many are going to want to nail a car worth over £100k on a track day.

having said that i view the 996 RS as a strong buy, given it was undervalued and they are very special cars. rarity matters on values and these had the shortest production run for any 911 RS derivative.

Slightly O/T but is the ride on a 7GT3RS harder than a 7GT2?

The 6 has to be the best long term bet. First of the GT3 RS', last of the manual, non PASM, PSM 911. A sure fire classic in my view, but it has been slow to take off.

Apparently JZM sold a low miler for £100k without it being advertised a week or so ago.
Its been a talking horse for years now though and its never really happened.

ALL GT3s are currently riding high, in a general market thats doing some crazy things.

Its a bubble thats likely to burst IMO

Like others, I also think this current market is artificially high and may not last; the trick is of course is to know when to exit – if indeed you intend to exit…

I am sure some may have jumped out of a 73 RS at circa £300-350k and yet now they can command £500k!

Not really. Much of a muchness. The 3 is a more "detailed" car all round. It feels more focused.

I tend to agree - but the timing of any correction could still be a while off unless there is an exogenous event of some magnitude. More likely we will see a reversal in the stock market as ZIRP is rescinded and QE scaled back - and this will flow into the more illiquid assets such as cars.

The trick in holding illiquid assets is indeed knowing when to sell - timing wise the selling of these types of assets is often at its best when prices are rising, just like they are now...

+1

I have pondered this as well. If they continue to go north of £100k, they will appeal to the purer collector/road driver segment as the trackday buyer will get scarcer at that price point. I assume the 964RS has already started to retreat from the trackday scene.

On the flip side, the base 6GT3 is great value for both road/track and is probably why none can be found(!) as owners have little credible alternative.

Wasn't it a 100k track day car when it came out? You're all prima donnas for not driving them because of their value. If you're worried about shunting it at least you know you're driving it properly! Well, as close to properly as possible at the given time....
The best 996RS out there is the one that has already been bent, those owners car enjoy their cars conscience free!

true enough, and i still use mine extensively on the track 'at pace' , but i suppose it might be an issue for some.

Sadly we live in a world where crashed exotic/supercars are about as in demand as used condoms.....race cars on the other hand are different! Wash 'em out and pass on....

The reality is if you have a 996RS for example and it's been crashed, it's forever stigmatised.....

Not if you plan to keep it or get paid out and move on...

My point is your risk is 10k not 100k. Peoples attitude to risk is different obviously,

Yes sold. First chap had trouble reading and offered me 73k and second chap offered asking.

I will regret selling but I'm still getting over making a large profit on a car I've owned..
