Ouch. Possibly the reason for the bdisation.
The car is very well known on Pistonheads and a credit to its previous owner, who pedaled it very well at the Ring and Spa in years past. The Carbon Manthey wing, which the idiotic body shop left without the end plates was on the car before the shunt. The genuine Porsche Cup wheel was also fitted prior to the accident. The only real shame is that whoever did the work to put it back on the road has taken off the Gold BBS LMs and swapped them over for the boring 996.2 wheels. Could be an attempt to hide the identity of the car? As for the actual damage - I was bidding on this car until it reached £35k. It sold for £39k. Porsche had quoted some crazy number to fix it, hence the insurance payout. As a matter of fact, the damage could be classified as almost superficial. New bumpers, new lights and a few other things. I came away with £20k repair estimate, Porsche quoted almost three times.
It is sad that the current seller has decided not to divulge the past. However, I have seen much worse 997s put back on the road. Given how good this car was prior to the shunt, I don't think over the long term it was such a bad buy (provided it was properly repaired).
Is there some subterfuge about the history of the car? I mentioned on PH regarding the track day at the time, that it was a shame a red GT3 crashed and closed the track and quickly received an email asking me to delete the comment.

The key is in the use of "almost" in front of superficial damage. I am aware that it possibly had a bend in the driver's rear chassis rail. In the grand scheme of things, two bumpers, headlights, rear lid and a little bit of jig work is still absolutely nothing compared to what a lot of "mint" 964RS and 996 GT3s that have been sold over the years went through.
As for any subterfuge? No idea - I spoke to Mr LaS when it appeared on Copart and he could not have been more helpful.

Insurance total loss, paid out. No reason to think he'd be anything but ? The vendor/s however, now they may be being slightly less than transparent if their advert is anything to go by ....
This is why I enjoy buying cars privately.
Nobody knows more about their car than the enthusiast owner ... I want to sell my cars to people who will benefit from my experience and the money I've spent keeping them good ...
Sell ? Well, life is an experience not a museum.
I've sold more collectable cars than most, but I've learnt so much on the way ...
If only I had had the prescience to borrow the cost of my new cars and keep the old ones

Ones (scrap)man's superficial is another's total loss however so I'm sure we can agree to disagree, we all have different ideas of what is acceptable after all

The red 996.2 GT3:

Wheels: They look slightly damaged and if you price a new set you'll see why its on standard rims!

Range1 is the limiter on 996.
996.1 has a lower limit than 996.2 and I haven't seen any figures showing where range 2 starts on a 996.1.
Also bear in mind Manthey raise the limit on a K400 with no mechanical changes.
Ah ok good to know, thanks. Just being tempted by a car which has a heap of rr1 (20,000+) but zero rr2 so was wondering if rr1 was like the 7gt3 ie not a really ideal. If it's just recording limiter hits then all's good... 996.1 has a lower limit than 996.2 and I haven't seen any figures showing where range 2 starts on a 996.1.
