JZM feel that prices are still going to be seasonaly affected on 996 GT3's?
That's interesting. In the past the winter has always seen a dip in prices followed by a rise, all be it not back up to the previous years peak, in the spring. 2013/14 winter was the first time this dip didn't occur over winter and 2014/15 winter has seen a mild and steady increase in prices.
So not entirely convinced prices will still have the same spring jump we have had in the past. Especially as these cars are being bought less and less as track toys. Therefore not the same clamour for the them at the start of the track season.
Still, interesting couple of months ahead.

My hypothesis is that demand for the 996s will rise due to multiple drivers:
- existing 'fans' of which there has always been a steady number
- new 'fans' as a result of growing recognition of old school analogue experience in a relatively modern (and still good performance) package. Perhaps also new people looking to 'upgrade' into a quality Porsche
- owners of the more expensive GT3/RS variants which are tipping over £100k (some now >£150k) looking for a cheaper car to use in anger
- arm chair speculators thinking of a safe car to put money into
...anyway, all guesswork

Agree it's attractive. Though personally I think the part that will attract most people is the simple fact of a reasonably low rate finance package on the new car. Stick £20k cash deposit on the deal & keep everything else liquid.No Mezger, HPAS etc argument all well and good etc.
What's a GT3 going to set you back these days? However much, it's realistically got to be paid with cash (however you raise that) and the GT4 doesn't.

Not unless they have already ordered it. By the time I had even given it some thought they were already sold out and off the table. As for little competition, the GT4 is priced against left hand drive GT3s up to and including the 3.8 Gen 2 from the continent at the current exchange rate... It is an "in addition to", not an "instead of" car for existing GT3 drivers and a nice toy for other people who aren't in the market for any flavour of GT3 IMHO. Expecting lots of lightly specced comforts on finance for that one sadly. DiscoColin said:

Once GT4s are a few years old, this will be a choice facing all buyers looking for their first GT car.
Besides would a 997.2 GT3 be as alluring as a new GT4 and a SC/Caterham? For some it won't be.
I hate to say it but I think press reports will have a big impact so let's see.

I don't think there's going to be any doubt that the GT4 is going to be in massive demand and will probably command a premium when changing hands.
However good it is though, there's always going to be a group of people who are still after the older 996/997 911 models and as time goes on the supply of good cars will still be far less than the actual demand for them. In my opinion of course

But poor reports on the new M3/M4 made me pull my order. That and the prospect of some biblical depreciation.
I agree some purchasers don't give a toss about press reviews. However some do consider the reports coming in from journalists that they respect the opinion of.
The GT4 is a mute point anyway. We know it will be good. We know it is sold out. WE know it will command a premium for some time after launch. It doesn't need any validation from a journo.

The one thing that may inhibit future GT4 values is that there will certainly be another one along in a few years - similar in most respects, but faster and better. A lot of the future value of the 981.1 GT4 may well hinge on whether the 981.2 GT4 has a turbocharger or not to my mind.

Hmmm, in fairness they were trying to shift these at the back end of 2008 when the world appeared to sliding towards financial armagedon and the arse had dropped out of the car market - nothing was selling. I bought one with a substantial discount for a colleague and he's still got it, and he's bought and sold a 996 Turbo and GT3 in the meantime, the press did not exaggerate how good that Regie is.I hope to get a GT4, to keep the 996 RS company and help take a bit of trackday pressure off the RS. Put an LOI and deposit down may '14 when i had a tip off from a pal in the motherland that the beancounters had given the nod to do a hot Cayman. Fingers crossed, it should be a blinder !

I'm looking at two LHD 996 GT3's that are currently available, neither is currently in UK, but I am buying one to bring with me to use in UK as I am moving back soon. One is a Mk 1 Club Sport with 38,000 miles on it and the other is a Mk 2 Club Sport with 67,000 miles.
Having owned both models in the past and I prefer the drive of the Mk2, but I like the thought of owning the original Mk 1 car especially as they will soon be hard to buy with prices going up as they are.
I am looking for an educated opinion as to what they are worth now, but there are so few for sale in UK or Europe I am really struggling to come up with a figure, I don't mind paying what they are worth, but could do with some guidance as to what that value is today. Anyone bought one recently or know what they are worth now?
