If your nearby, could you not go and see/test drive it and compare. If you like it, see what theyll give you for yours (unless they only do SOR) and take it from there?
A bit of water between here and Cambridge and also not much spare time on hand. Hence if someone has seen it, it may save the trip if it's a lemon.tonto1 said:
big till ! Will be interesting to see whether the 4.1 996.1 sells at that price but you're getting a lot more car for your money than with a 996RS though the RS will always be a better bet in terms of resale.
I have a 996.1 RHD CS (Speed Yellow)with a K400 fitted. Standard suspension, (geo set up by Parr for track), MK2 brakes, FSH, 50K miles. Hoping to keep it for a while yet but just wondering what is realistically currently worth. 60K?

£65/70k minimum in my opinion. I'd see the k400 as a bonus if I were looking for one personally. I have a 996.1 RHD CS (Speed Yellow)with a K400 fitted. IMO the dilema with these cars with irreversible modifications is that although they might be great cars with hugely powerful engines, and great for track work. The more they're worth the less likely it will be that they get taken on track. So what's the point of the modifications then? Those modifications will then, after a price, reduce their value because as an investment item they're less original.
I know of the car through a third party, the car has wanted for nothing. The owner is fastidious.
The Zanzibar car at Cambridge Motor Co is about as extreme as you could, or would indeed want to go with a 996 GT3 engine conversion.
On the other hand, the Manthey K400 kit takes the Mk1 GT3 to another level.
The conversion is a complete exhaust system, Cup filter, MAF delete/Alpha N and carbon fibre cold air ducting (depending on whether or not the engine lid has been cut to facilitate fitment of the correct cold air ducting, will determine whether the conversion is completely reversible).
In fell swoop it increases the earlier cars Hp above the Mk2 and it imbues it with both an induction and exhaust note to die for, AND it makes the final 2k of the rev band completely manic. My K400 car felt as quick as a standard Mk2 996 GT3 RS, but with a far, far superior soundtrack.
The Manthey conversion is well regarded and comes from one of the premier German Porsche tuning specialists.
There's no reason to suspect it should impact negatively on a car from a resale/ value perspective.

As to Manthey's reputation - the fact that Porsche actually bought a majority stake and uses Manthey to run most of its racing program should be enough. Also, the fact that they have been the team to beat in the toughest endurance race - the N24hrs - using a 911 (996/7) for the last 10yrs should also offer enough comfort.

Of course I am biased, but having driven a totally original 996.1 CS and then my 996.1 CS K400, there is no comparison. The way the Manthey just revs and revs, and then some more, with an ever increasing shove and scream is unattainable in any other 996, short of a Cup car.

Agree totally. The K400 is a superb bit of kit and transformed the car even if it is eye wateringly expensive. As to Manthey's reputation - the fact that Porsche actually bought a majority stake and uses Manthey to run most of its racing program should be enough. Haven't had mine on track since the K400 fitted. It sounds noticeable louder than the stock exhaust. Wonder what sort of db reading a K400 would produce?
