Agree totally. The K400 is a superb bit of kit and transformed the car even if it is eye wateringly expensive.
Haven't had mine on track since the K400 fitted. It sounds noticeable louder than the stock exhaust. Wonder what sort of db reading a K400 would produce?
106 ish (give or take) The K400 is probably the best mod you can do to a Mk1.Haven't had mine on track since the K400 fitted. It sounds noticeable louder than the stock exhaust. Wonder what sort of db reading a K400 would produce?

How much for the Mahle 3.8 conversion?
Was seeing around $6500 for the pistons, rings, wrist pins and cylinders. And then whatever it costs to actually strip it and re-assemble. But then if you are doing it, you will change a few bits and bobs while you are in there Speaking of speed yellow club sports with manthey mods....
My MK2 996 has previously had bonnet pins fitted, it does have the cup front bumper / ducting but I'm assuming it's just for aesthetics. Anyway, it's not really to my taste and I'm wondering from a resale perspective whether a) it would put folk off and b) if I got a reputable body shop to "remove" them and respray would that put people off as it's had paint work?
Realistically if I was getting the bonnet sprayed I'd likely get the front bumper done as well as it has a couple of stone chips that have got past the armor fend.
Not planning on selling anytime soon but would like to keep my investment safe....
Cheers,
Chris

If your nearby, could you not go and see/test drive it and compare. If you like it, see what theyll give you for yours (unless they only do SOR) and take it from there?
A bit of water between here and Cambridge and also not much spare time on hand. Hence if someone has seen it, it may save the trip if it's a lemon.I have to say that the car is stunning. It's obviously seen some track action but overall it's fairly immaculate. The bodywork is stunning and the wheels are to die for. Overall the visual upgrades enhace it and make it look the real deal. The only downsides I can see are that it needs a new windscreen and I think it had a few stone chips on one of the side skirts - both easily rectifiable.
I didn't drive it but the history file that comes with it is fastidious - and most mechanical parts appear pretty much brand new.
The dealer set up was good too - most cars on Sor but some great kit in there, nothing ropey at all and they clearly know their stuff. Very happy for a potential purchaser to have an independent PPI done too.
Anyway the reason for sharing this is that after giving it the weekend to think over I have decided that I can't really justify changing mine for it (although they did value mine at £65-68k retail however, but quite a lot less to buy outright).
Overall I think the price is possibly testing the market but from what I saw I think it could be looked back on as a steal in years to come. Whoever gets it will have a cracker.

How much did they suggest you could swap into it or was it the £7k ticket difference?
On a Sor basis yes, it would be the ticket price of mine less their sales fee (£2,250+vat fixed). But mine would need to sell first obviously so I presume that if someone came in with a deal for the Zanzibar one in the mean time I'd likely lose out. On a outright purchase basis the difference is much greater as you would expect - their purchase offer started with a five...

Ref the bold above, I can see why your interest died away.
Problem I have is I have an Alpine tour and a few track sessions planned this year in my RS but at the same time they are selling for crazy prices now so swapping to this 996 will make me not worry so much about mileage/wear and tear.
I'm not sure what the current value of a 7.1RS is at the mo; there is only one for sale on PH; the orange one for £130K. Mine being LHD means in the UK about £10K less??? Then I have no idea how to factor in a barely run in 3.8l engine and around £100,000 of unique mods. To all intents and purposes it is now a cross between a 7.2RS and a 4.0l but a fair bit lighter and more mental. As there is no other to compare it to I have no idea of value

Many thanks for the feedback siheb. Did you find out the mileage on the new lump? From the add I think it is date related (year 2000 fitted from memory)

The water is muddy with this one Siheb, has seen the massive spec and the the invoices that accompany this car. A similar mileage standard car sold over the weekend for the same asking price of the Zanzibar car. That should tell you what the £100k worth of mods to your car are worth to a wider audience. Yes, they'll be the occasional track day junkie who'll want a massively modified car, but pay a premium for the privilege ? I'm dubious. Your car will appeal to a very small demographic, but as their values rise, the market will get increasingly sniffy about modified cars.
If your car is LHD, I'd try advertising it in mainland Europe for a premium (not sure how much) over and above what the other LHD cars are selling for.
