How can anyone not think this is cheap at £33.5k. Just because it was up for £10k less previously is irrelevant. Look at 996RS's - they were up for £50k less 12 months ago...

It could be a great car - obviously it will need a full inspection given it's prior history, but that's a few hundred quid well spent and if it is a straight car then it's well worth the asking price. If you want a GT3 to drive and not stick in a garage to appreciate in value then this could be ideal. Let's face it, with the state of the market there are fewer cars available that can be classed as drivers cars these days - which is criminal as the 996.1 GT3 is one of the best drivers cars ever made.

I'm very happy that I can drive mine as Mr Porsche intended smile

Personally I'd say it was sold a little too cheap last time ?

I'd say it's worth somewhere between 28-32 against current pricing depending on paperwork/service history etc and how motivated the seller is. Let's be fair there isn't exactly a lot of choice about !

As the car gets older being on the "Hit list" will surely have less and less of an impact and it'll be judged more on how it currently stands.

At £28k (following a PPI) I would jump at it. this gives the seller a £5k profit for owning it 2 months.

Its not possible to value it without knowing the level of damage and how well it was repaired.

A couple of front wings and a bumper is one thing.

A mangled and twisted rear chassis that has been bodged up is entirely something else!

I have been sent a few photos of it (before repair)! Eyes wide open when buying anything like this... hence the PPI!

The pics on 911UK (if it's the same car) aren't great and just show the drivers side. Which looks like it's run along some Armco or something. But they don't show the front/rear/passenger side.

I nearly bought a Guards Red 996.2 CS a few years back from OPC Leics that had an off at Oulton park, it was repaired at a cost of 25K by them and looking through the invoice there wasn't anything substantial in there. So it's easy to see how a car could become uneconomical to repair (which is essentially what Cat C is). I often wonder where that Guards red car is now and if the owner knows about its history.

A cat D car is substantial repair cost but can be a surprisingly low amount relative to the value of the car.

Cat C is very substantially damaged beyond economic repair. Its advisory whether its put back on the road at all. There are degrees of damage within these but if its Cat C its had a bug knock.
This may be the theory, but the reality is frequently different.

Looks potentially lovely, assuming it all checks out. Hopefully the seller is just trying to raise funds for a horse box rather than sell a lemon.

I'd be interested in buying just the plate off it.

I don't think that's the same car as the one that's up for sale

sure I spoke to the owner of that car at the 'ring earlier in the year, amongst others mods had been converted to have mk2 headlights, the car for sale has the standard mk1 lights

LOL, I was just about to say it doesn't look to be a right lot of work to warrant a Cat C.

Nov 2011 - PH Ad - It had black rims and GT3 decals the and, had already had a hard whack and the whole front wiped out and replaced - I have seen a pic - it later turned out the front was clipped at the scuttle with the front of a blue 996 of unknown origin.

Yep that's a major couple of knocks! With a 2 on the front of the price I'd still buy it and enjoy lots of track time (if everything was safely repaired) but starting with a 3 I'd be thinking again having seen those images. I'm no mechanic so maybe it's not as bad as it looks, but gut feel is not good! Problem with the internet also is that those photos are now around forever.

Cheers

You'd have to be a bit of a mug to buy that. I'd sooner be realistic with my budget and get something else, not be blinded by the fact that, just because it is (some kind of) GT3, you can overlook that history.

Amazing how people don't take on board the old saying of "if it sounds too good to be true..." motto and instead think a clean and shiny car is good enough evidence that a car is sound! I'm not saying people shouldn't buy a Cat C/D, but i want want a library of info/pics of the rebuild from a reputable specialist or main dealer.
