Any thoughts on this 997.1 Turbo Cab?

Looks nice - definitely holding out for a grey or black model I think though!
I think that car is GT Silver. same colour as CGT launch colour and slightly more grey than silver. Beautiful in the flesh and can be hard to photograph. Far nicer than meteor (I've had both colours in the past).stumcnu said:
OK folks - another rev range reading question. What are your thoughts on this:
Total Operating Hours: 993.5
Mileage: 30,000
RR1 @ 981 hours – 24,867 ignitions
RR2 @ 1,003 - ?
RR3 @ 833 hours – 5,329 ignitions
RR4 @ 481.2 hours – 204 ignitions
Cheers,
Stuart
Given what has been said above, if 911 Virgin are to be taken as gospel on the subject of Rev Ranges, then I personally would not touch that 997 Turbo with a 12 foot stunt cock.Total Operating Hours: 993.5
Mileage: 30,000
RR1 @ 981 hours – 24,867 ignitions
RR2 @ 1,003 - ?

Using the above information from 911 Virgin, we can surmise the car in question has been driven as follows:
Rev Range (RR) | Time Spent in each Rev Range |
---|---|
RR1 (>6800 - <7000) | 73 seconds* |
RR2 (>7000 - <7200) | [no data supplied] |
RR3 (>7200 - <7400) | 14 seconds |
RR4 (>7400 - <7900) | 0.5 seconds |
*RR1 being at or slightly beyond the rev limiter
So in summary therefore (again, taking 911 Virgin at their word), the car in question appears to have been driven rather enthusiastically to say the least, with particular attention being paid to the time the car appears to have spent in RR3.
Granted however, the last RR3 activity was more than 50 operating hours ago (Porsche appear to deem any time after this window sufficient to mitigate against engine failure), so the car could well be fine.
Nevertheless, taking on such a car in the knowledge of its past, could prove troublesome to sell in future.

Further information following a bit of digging - in no particular order:
- The vehicle had a new clutch in May 2012, which I would guess would be between 18,000 and 20,000 miles
- At that point the vehicle was also chipped and mapped - whether it still is will remain to be seen after the OPC check today
- I've discovered another VRM which was on the vehicle in June 2010: T6 LLV
I'm going to go ahead and get the OPC check this afternoon - but I confess to being a bit nervous about some of this history.
If I think 'worst case' this *could* sound like a car that has been modded, tracked, ragged, and then repeatedly sold on due to issues.
But I could just be over-thinking it.

A new clutch at 18k is a real concern. There is no reason why a Turbo clutch shouldn't last 50k miles if the car is driven properly.
Again, if it has been 'chipped' I'd be extremely cautious. Crucially, this also potentially explains why the car has spent 73 seconds in RR1 (assuming the rev limit was raised).

Any views from PH-ers? Would you spend your money on it?
