Wanna make £££ Get yourself a 996 Turbo
Discussion
My 996 turbo is in the bodyshop for a week getting a new front splitter and resprayed front bumper. The insurance company have loaned me a 911 C2S PDK which I have been driving since Monday.
I am totally in love with the car and think the C2S it a great car. Much better than the 997 IMO. Handles well, sounds epic (with exhaust switched to loud and in sports mode ) Looks cool, love the PDK (and I have always argued against PDK (still like my manual though)) and the performance ticks all the boxes for me. The car sounds amazing when dropping down a gear or two and it auto blips the revs, very, very addictive . Build quality feels okay but the one I have has a few switches that are sticky and the horn does not work, but it is a loaner and I guess does not get the TLC. Things I don't like are, the rearview mirror (hate the shape) and the wing mirrors that are pointed at the ends. The only real bugbear I have with the car is the steering. Feels okay when you are pottering about but on track when you are pushing it the feel can be more vague than I am use to and over corrective. The car tries to dial out the understeer which in turn makes the cornering less responsive. Even when you switch off the traction control the steering does not improve.
So why have I posted this post on the 996 Turbo thread. Simply that imo the 996 turbo is a much better car. The feedback I get through my 996 turbo's steering is in a different league to the 911 C2S. Much sharper more responsive and you can feel all the nuances of the road. It handles just as well as the 911 if not a little better due to the sharper response of the steering. I would also like to address the turbo lag question that a lot of people bring up. My 996 has the X50 pack with the larger K24 turbo's, but believe it or not from standstill is less laggy than the C2S. The 911 C2S (not in launch mode I would add, but then I could do the same in the turbo) when you hit the loud pedal hard from standstill does not pick up that fast. It feels slow (and I am sure it is).
Would I own a 911C2S if I had the chance, 100% yes. It is a great daily runner, sounds amazing and looks cool. Would I swap the 996 turbo for a 911 C2S. NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS.

whilst I may be biased as a 997.1 turbo, I don't get the 996 is better than the 991 which is better than the 997 given the gradual evolution (I am a big fan of both the 996t and 997t)

I've held the opinion that the 996 is the ugliest car both inside and out that Porsche has ever produced.
Clearly you've never seen my Cayenne. I don't think the 996 will ever be considered the prettiest 911, but I think they're aging fairly well and the turbo is better looking than the NA.
