Shame about the ruffled leather
With typical financial acumen, I sold my immaculate manual X50 Turbo cab garage queen just before prices started to rise....
This evening I came into work and parked my pushbike next to the car I should've bought in the first place a well used tiptronic coupe with a Raid paddleshift wheel, it was filthy, obviously well used and a bit rough around the edges and looked absolutely great!
If I'd bought that car in the first place I'd probably still have it.
Not really sure what my point is, other than;
a, If you're in the market for a 996, buy one that's right for you and screw the residuals.
b, If you're in the market for a 996 I'm extremely envious!

£50k
No doubt be £60k next year.
The ship hasn't sailed just yet.

The ship hasn't sailed just yet.
I still think they are going to rise a bit more.
This time last year, I purchased my car:
2005
996 Turbo S
Black/Black
Aero kit
Techno Alloys
Sport seat
Manual gearbox
27k on clock
It was at the time, the most expensive 996 Turbo for sale, only one particular cabrio was close on price.
I'd say it is worth a little more now but...........I was also hunting for a 996 GT2 comfort but the wife put her foot down and rightly so, said "we could all enjoy the Turbo S" as we have 2 young boys........
........The GT2's were at the time, 10% more expensive and now they are on sale for between £90-200k.
So I think those who can't jump in to a 996 GT2 will want a sorted 996 Turbo.
Only my 2p's worth.
IceBoy
PS....It is an amazing car!

These won't go up much in value if at all. Simply too many made and not desirable enough. Looks both inside and out are incredibly dated
Surely it doesn't matter how many are made? If hardly any are for sale and plenty of people in the market to buy then the prices have to go upwards. My first post but have been lurking on here for a while with a particular interest in the 996 turbo.
It is of my opinion "classic enthusiast" that the market has woken up to probably one of the best all round supercars ever made & certainly one of the best 911's without a doubt.
It certainly wasn't going to be long before the prices started to rise.
If you look at previous Turbo's they have all gone the same way, the old adage "supply and demand" rings true. Whats interesting is there are fewer tidy 996 T's available as owners are realising the classic status they are quite rightly starting to get. The magazines have quoted them as been the next big thing in rising 911 values, so despite the obvious negative comments (usually by somebody who cannot afford one) which are not justified.
Sure the 997 Turbo might have a nicer interior and traditional 911 round lights but the driving experience of the 996 T is a rawer occasion coupled with the fact it doesn't have the troublesome turbo's of the newer model.
Anyway I've harped on for too long, I would suggest go out and buy one Manual or Tiptronic (forget mileage-go on its history/condition) and cosset it and enjoy the driving experience they give you. Wonderful cars and one of the best if not the best 911 Turbo ever produced.

I agree the prices are likely to continue rising for a while - and I think the "too many produced" argument is a bit weak, since they are clearly already rising. I considered selling mine 18 months ago and so I know from the prices then it would have been a good £5k down on its current value.
On the other hand, I don't think I'd consider a 996 turbo to be a "raw" driving experience, unless it's had quite a few other mods made to it. I always found mine a little numb to drive.
If you want to go very very fast, there isn't much to beat them for that money though.

I think they are rawer experience than the 7T.
But yes some mods and you're there.
Mine has the suspension set up for fast road use and a Miltek pipe so it certainly sounds right now.
What DMS have done to mine is incredible and its a reasonably raw experience but not like older cars.
You can say the same about a 993 turbo they are also refined they are GT cars at the end of the day.
In terms of there's loads about I agree that's utter nonsense and as stated prices have gone up and continue to go North anyway, so buyers are obviously in bigger demand than the numbers on the market.
In terms of values of 911's I've been pretty canny over the yrs and predicted quite a few sleepers that were going to rise, and they all have. I don't mind hanging my hat on the 996 Turbo either, especially now the GT2 is out of reach for a lot us me included now (as an ex owner)people will opt for the turbo and tweak accordingly.
I just wish I had more time to use mine but bloody kids activities are taking up my weekends these days. I considered selling it but fear if the prices carry on as they are doing I will be priced out of the market yet again when I get another. I still say having owned 2 previous 6T's and on my 3rd they are the best 911's i've owned but the market has woken up to them now.

Prices have certainly risen since I bought mine a year or so ago. If it was on the market now it would be worth around 10K more than I paid for it.
I have toyed with the idea of selling mine but just can't do it. It's such a great car and one you can use in all conditions. And I just love the way the power is delivered, such a "Woo hoo hoo" type experience when you floor it.

[quote=shantybeater]Gave my turbo a clean yesterday ahead of wilton house. Shame she is so 'ugly' and 'dated'. Several people commented on how hideous it was at the petrol station
Good post, I too have a turbo in seal grey, great colour and yes, I am sick of being told how old dated and crap it is lol
