So yes I agree you pay more in maintaining the 996 turbo but you have a 911 turbo, my point it that it's not a cheap option because the engine is sound. I kind of think the Internet has discouraged buyers from the 997.1 and their next port of call with 20_25k in their pockets is the 996 turbos hence the prices up, but then they were always the cheapest 911 turbo ever.

I was very tempted with the 996 turbo but I prefer shapely arses rather than just pure big arses, and my garage is thin !

The 996 turbo (and 996 C4S) are 1,829mm wide, the 997.1 C2S is 1,808mm wide, so 21mm (2.1cm) in it!

Sorry but that's just silly.

In fact why I am even commenting. jester
But you can drive a 997.1 Carrera without a bag on your head wink
Fair point.
I've just bought a new bag for my head really impressed with it to be honest.
Well planted even at 100 leptons.

I've got a sun roof in mine so my bag isn't well planted at 50. Rustles around a bit so I can't hear the dated stero.

Still, at least I don't have to look at it.

Had a 64s till October last year an really wanted to go back to a turbo'd car again as every other car I've had has been turbo.
I looked at skyline gtr's and evos etc but they are all crap for big money.
So I started looking at 996turbos as I liked the 4s but need more grunt.downsideis trying to get a decent owe for around 25k.
When I looked before my 4s they were round 20k up. Most now are 30k up. What a bummer. Guess I may end up back in a 4s again

Not even the same page is it, and anyone who has driven both knows it too....
with the prices havign gone up approx 10k in a year I reckon they will keep going
like that a few years yet. In a short time a decent 996 TT with 50 - 60k and proper
service history and spec will be £50000....Or I will eat my hat

Very nice (and very unusual) colour - 'fraid that mine is a very boring Artic Silver!

Its a bit of an acquired taste. In the sun its Pink, gets a lot of looks.

I am looking forward to getting some use of it, its going in for a new clutch today,
when I bought it the clutch was for the bin slipping badly on wide open throttle which was an unwelcome surprise and
has added circa 2k of costs it that I was hoping to keep for an exhaust. Needless to say I
was extremely disappointed and let down.

It is common knowledge that a standard 996 TT clutch is good for only about 430 440 bhp
maybe less and then it slips, and if it does not slip it just means its in good condition though will
wear out at twice the rate. Most tuning companies wont even touch a manual TT
without fitting a Sachs 890 nm clutch, which is what I have bought with anew clutch release bearing,
the car goes in today to have it all fitted and are hoping that the clutch accumulator is up to it
or thats more money.

By contrast the Tiptronic can take a lot of bhp gains right outof the box, and youcan guarantee that
the engine has never been over revved, buying a Tip does make sense.

I bought mine last month not specifically because I expected it to be an investment as much as the fact I'd been on the brink of so doing for several years and began to be worried that if prices marched on, they might move out of easily, sensibly affordable territory for me. I can certainly see an argument for saying they (still) look good VFM when considering a number of factors.

Your car is a very distinctive colour - mine too is a boring Arctic silver, but I'm very much attached to it already. Even when I'm not driving it, it is a particularly nice piece of artwork to have in the room whilst fettling mountain bikes.

It looks great!

I don't understand people ordering a brand new top of the range sports car, and speccing it silver??
I mean the car carries itself, but my arctic GT2 is going for a colour change next year, no doubt!

Also Artic Silver. My choice as it makes the front grills stand out and the "distinctive" lights blend in. And it hides the dirt well !! I don't think the prices will rise much more but will level out soon. Still a lot of car for the money.

Funnily enough, I do think that the lighter colours accentuate all the various grills and vents - especially the gills being the rear wheels (which IMHO are an exquisite, 959 carry-over detail) - and, as you say, tend to wear the dirt a bit better, as well as hiding the inevitable stone chips better.

Initially I'd set me heart on a seal grey car - possibly the very best balance for the 996tt - but gradually warmed to the idea of silver. That said I love them in black too, as they look really menacing, but I've had black cars before and I'm crap at washing cars and even worse at polishing them (well), so that was out of the question.

Mine is a Tip, which I know that the purists don't really rate as much as a manual, but it takes the power really well

Mind you... Mrs MMT has a 996 Turbo S, which is manual with more BHP, and that really gets down the road!
