Some years ago i promised myself a new or newish 911 to celebrate my 50th birthday, and the time has arrived. The 911 has always appealed and it's 16 years since I sold my old 1991 C2. So, the question is which of the current offerings do i buy with a view to keeping the thing for five maybe as long as eight years. With a 100k budget do i buy a used turbo, go mad and buy a turbo 's' or act my age and either order a new 3.4 carrera or find a demo that fits the bill and put the change in the bank ?
What I'm looking for is help and inspiration please, what would you buy ? ……Oh, and a coupe not a cabriolet…….Thanks chaps.

Not for £100k. Either 997.2 non-RS or 997.1 RS - I'm in the same boat, looking at the former. They've all gone up £20k in the last year!

O yea... missed that bit! Well either would still be a nice, and hopefully gain value!

If has to be 991, wait for new GTS next year.

If 997, go for a 2 w d GTS for best 911 driveability per £....or a Turbo/Turbo S as best performance per £...driving

Sounds like this could be the one - 50th Anniversary - possibly collectible in the future, looks fantastic and drives superbly.

Have you tried any? What did you think? A 3.4 or 3.8 is a very fast, comfortable modern GT sports coupe for everyday use, a Gt3 more of a weekend warrior.

I'd keep my £100k safe and find a lovely 993 turbo; YMMV.

Had a good look round an owners car the other day and it is a stunning motorcar with lots of echoes of the past in a modern package. Try and get a closer look at one.

Get a 50th anniversary . Fits your fiftieth and is a cracking car . I chose it over the turbo . Great mix of fun , comfort and feel good factor . Easily the best non gt model 911 ATM .

The anniversary cars are usually about design detailing, some of which is quite nice.

But I've driven a few 991s, inc PEC cars, and I'd go for a C4'S' - ideally a well spec'd one year old example for the best buy under £100k.

Or, a nice C2'S' for c.£70k and an aircooled collectable with the change

Love the interior "houndstooth", love the grey paint and wheels. As above, fits perfectly with your own 50th and might just provide a sense of occasion lacking in the standard 991. Details can make all the difference and I think this model is spot on. I had a good look at one in the Silverstone showroom last year and thought it looked stunning.

I would 100% go for a 991 Carrera 4 as the benchmark with sport exhaust option (having driven one for a week and fell in love with it). Further to that it would be the S version so ultimately would NOT go for a Turbo but simply a 991 Carrera 4S and spend the remaining money on something else.

50th, as that is a pretty appropriate present to yourself!

Failing that, a nice C4S.

Sorry i am mistaken - for your 50th... it has to be the 50th anniversary edition without question... and if you dont like that then its got ot be a C4S - anything else would either not be right or more money for no reason wink
