On the 997.2 PSE it is definitely not open all the time when it is switched on. It is constantly opening and closing the flaps depending on the situation. Very easy test to prove this: when stationary, switch on PSE and push the clutch in. Have the window down so you can hear it better. Now push the throttle down very slightly so the revs rise slightly. And hold it there. After about 5 seconds you will hear the flaps move and the PSE will switch itself into quiet mode. Release the throttle and apply again. The exhaust will be noisy again for a few seconds and then quieten down.

So when PSE is "on" it's not just "on".
I think if you watch the Sharkworks vids of the cars revving stationary you can actually hear the car go quiet if the revs are held up for long enough.

Well I did a short experiment by doing back to back drives with the sport exhaust on versus unplugged vacuum solenoid and found it very difficult to tell the difference to be honest. I think old age is affecting my hearing maybe. I will try the stationary test described next time (forgot the procedure) but definitely not a big enough difference for me to consider losing the switch flexibility (ie permanently unplugged) or consider fitting some other mod to always stay "fully open". I think I will be leaving well alone.

So I did a little more testing today including the raised revs clutch in clutch out test. I think there may be some confusion here as the car behaved exactly the same in PSE plugged in and active or PSE unplugged. I think the noise changes you are hearing at low speed are purely down to engine load. Under load the exhaust gets louder even at relatively steady RPM. The clutch trick that you experienced in my view is just the engine coming under load from the hydraulic clutch rather than the exhaust valve opening and closing. I remain sceptical as to whether the gen2 997 PSE has any meaningful quiet modes at specific speeds or RPM.

Not sure if this helps answer the question. When I had a gen1 car with PSE you could clearly hear it cut out at certain speeds, which is why I left mine unplugged (using the connector shown in the pics) most of the time to keep it in loud mode. With Gen2 PSE I simply cannot hear that cut out or a difference when i unplug the connector (which is pretty much the same connector between Gen1 and Gen2 PSE). So I see no point in paying for another switch or any point in losing the standard switchable functionality by unplugging.
Now that I have the Sharkwerks bypass the difference between on and off PSE mode is more pronounced which should make it easier to hear it cut out if it did.

I have no experience with exhaust mods on the 911, however on various 6 cylinder BMW's and VW's I always found Supersprint to provide the best sound.
The reason is that some parts remained as mild steel and therefore never droned.
Thin stainless steel is great for weight saving but doesn't provide enough substance to deaden the noise.
Milltek always seemed okay for an off the shelf kind of fit. Haven't seen this mentioned here either.
Titanium exhausts are very expensive and can crack easily I'm told by those who tried on an M3 CSL.
I have a 997.1 C2S and bought it as an approved used car. The salesman showed me a 997.2 with PSE and it was quieter than mine (which is standard).
A 996 with PSE is in a different league again, very loud.

Yep, the biggest disappointment with the 997.2 is how much quieter it is than the 997.1. Fair to say the Sharkwerks (with PSE) probably makes the 997.2 as loud as any other type of 911 with a PSE fitted. Miltek is average. They are no better than anyone else, just good at marketing.
