Whilst I was cleaning my 996t 04 plate yesterday, I noticed some bubbling paint each side around the kicker plates - which seems like an obvious water trap, just don't know how I' ve missed it before. A bit of agitation with my finder nail and there is definitely some surface rust. Is this a common problem?

Are kicker plates stuck on or screwed on.....and therefore how do you remove them?

I want to get the kicker plates off asap and rub back to protect the metal over the winter then get it sorted professionally along with some stone chips etc.in the spring.

Advice please?

They do that.

Stuck on, pull them off.

Are they the metal kick plates? I've heard these can cause corrosion, mine are the plastic variety and no signs of bubbling, car does get kept garaged/carcooned though so may help

I recall this came up a few times, rust associated with the stainless steel kick plates. I have these on my 996 C4S though and, touch wood, no sign of any problems as yet.

Any known issues with the CF ones? Sounds like a worry!

I have the same issue on my 996 C4S - but only on the drivers side. Mine are the plastic kick plates I think (will have to check). Have been meaning to get it sorted for ages, but never got around to it.
