Has anyone come across this website before? Just found as I did a Google search for a car I recently advertised on the classifieds and this was the first result. Tells you the basic make/ model and place of registration information along with historical advert information including the dates and mileages. A bit like the car equivalent of NetHousePrices. Heres an example - http://www.ukvehicle.com/RX56ULT/

Useful information for a buyer for spotting clocking or blatant profiteering, but for a seller I feel this is a slight invasion of privacy? I don't really see why historical photos and information about my car should be made public on the web without my consent. They seem to be lifting the data from the likes of Gumtree and the PH Classifieds then storing on their servers. Thoughts?

Why would they need your consent to republish documents which are already in the public domain?

I just did a check on my old 07 Mercedes I part exchanged last year and it said it had 114k miles on it.

When I got rid it had 460k miles. eek

Advert does not specify mileage but does say one owner (me) and full MBSH, so not sure if it's that accurate. Could have been the for sale advert after it was acutioned by Mercedes Benz.
It says the advert was 16th march so unless it was seriously clocked a few weeks after I doubt that's acuurate.

I don't know the legalities of it but when you publish the advert you're generally doing so under the knowledge you can remove it at any time.

Not going to win this one though, as a buyer I like the idea but as a seller I'm not sure I do, but can't have it both ways! smile

The only thing it tells me about my car is that it was first registered in Sheffield in 1980.

Yeah kind of. You can pull it from the original place you posted it, but once something is on the internet it's almost impossible to remove. This is just another example of that.

Interesting stuff. Would be interesting to know the sources. Ebay is definitely one such source. Assume that it automatically picks up the reg plate from the pics.

Yep, apparently my car was first registered in Peterborough in 1985. Er no, Wiltshire in 2003. Useful...

Very interesting. Looks like my MX5 was clocked in 2012 but then somehow rectified (it hasn't done 70k in 2 years!)

One erroneous source is when your pics get lifted for a scam ad. My pics of a 535d were stolen and used on a bait/scam ad on eBay. It shows up a sale date using the fictitious location as a result. If the scammer had put down a different mileage then it would be quite possible that it would show up and make a future sale unrepresentatively suspicious

That's a reasonable point.

I'm quite sure that Gumtree is a source as well. It's definitely an interesting site.

Same result for every car I've ever owned for which I can remember the number plate (it tells me where they were registered, not that they were all registered in Sheffield in 1980 smile)

Had a chap come to buy my car and was using inaccurate information from their site. They also come up when you do a search on my plate on google. Are they legit has anyone been in contact with them. It caused me a lot of headache with their mickey mouse information.

I use them to check cars I'm about to buy - half price of the HPI check, works well for this purpose. I recommend them.
