996 turbo on the up

For the record I was after a 996t for some time, but in the end spent the extra to get a 997t - much preferred the interior especially seats, prefer the front styling and I plan on keeping the engine stock so the extra oomph of 997 appealed. That said I am still a big fan of the 996t.
Investment wise who knows, but I imagine a 996t would be a good turbo to go for because they are the cheapest variant right now so look cheap by comparison! Low mileage manual cars in good colours will always be sought after IMHO, but the same will be true of gen 1 Mezger 997t.
Stand out version? Well it stands out only because of the front lights and first water-cooled, but no other reason particularly IMHO. Their unique lights might end up being a plus, might be a minus - time will tell but it never put me off. Each generation has been a jump and change.
930 - old school charm, classic status
964/5 - best looking turbo IMHO
993 - first 4wd, look lovely, last of the aircooled
All have experienced big price rises which will only help 996/early 997

As an aside I do think 997.1tt's are undervalued at the mo
That X60 996 is silly, I guess the thing is not everyone buying a car researches the category to the nth degree, the same logic that makes 70% of the car buying public think that they should probably move on their 3 year old 35,000 mile Golf 'before it starts to develop problems' applies to the target buyer of this, you could just imagine someone saying "I went for the older model - but it's a minter - 14,000 miles from new - if I'd got the newer models they were all leggy 45,000 milers"
My experience of low milage older cars is to avoid them and this is prime for a whole ton of work needing doing in the first year as that suspension that has sat in one position for the last 12 years starts to be used again, same for things like o2 sensors etc

Values must be on the up. We buy any car offered me £14250 last year for mine. Checked again a few days ago as I fancied a laugh, and the price they offered had gone up to £16670.

Values must be on the up. We buy any car offered me £14250 last year for mine. Checked again a few days ago as I fancied a laugh, and the price they offered had gone up to £16670.
I realise webuyanycar isn't the bible of Porsche values, but for some reason they think it's worth 17% more this year than last year.

Quite a few folk who have driven both say that the 997t is the least inspiring to drive, has dead steering, next to no noise, suspensions settings that aren't great compared to 996t.
The 997t is of course more modern styling throughout but that's no indicator for long term value in the Porsche world. Neither 996t or 997t will be considered remotely modern in ten years from now anyhow. Some models have what it takes and some don't. The 996t is the daddy

I could post numerous reviews that state the 997t improves on the 996 in every way but would take those with a large pinch of salt like I do all car reviews.
Oh go on then, here is one piece of a review of the 997t in Autocar:
"The 997 Turbo is unquestionably the best sports car the world has ever seen. That much is non-negotiable. It does things normal cars can’t: it behaves, adapts, creates traction, generates adhesion and decelerates like no road car I have ever driven."
The author? Chris Harris!
To repeat myself both the 996t and 997t are fabulous cars, so I have desire to criticise off the 996t, as you have the 997t, to justify my choice, I had a preference for the 997, you the 996.
I don't think either are the stand out 911 turbo models of all time, you think the 996 is and i am happy you are so enamoured with your car you think that is the case
Going back to the OP I think the 996t is probably a good place to put your cash for depreciation proof motoring, if you buy a nice spec manual with black leather

Also all these car reviews are all well and good but so many are bias to how a car would drive on a track. So buy a car for what you intend to do with it. For me buying a 911 was to drive on the road. I wanted something as modern as I could afford that was rapid and capable. So, on that note I brought a 997 turbo. For me I feel I have brought the right car. That said a friend has a 996 turbo and it is also a great car. I would be happy with either car, just happier with a 997.
I have been keeping an eye on prices for about 12 months and prices do seem to have leveled out a bit in the last six months. There are a few 997’s sub £40k for high milers or not very well looked after examples. There is what looks like an odd bargain but without looking at the cars it would be difficult to say for sure. I enquired/looked at three cars before I brought the car I now have and for one reason or another turned them down. Good cars will hold their value but I’m not convinced yet that 996/997 turbos are going to start going up in price just yet. I would love to be wrong on that.
