Hi

New to C4S ownership and having owned TVRs in the past I'm looking to up the volume of the flat 6 sound track by fitting a pair of rear silencer box bypass pipes. Fabspeed have some in the US at $300 + $120 shipping and +20% import duty.

Does anyone know of any off the shelf options available to purchase in the UK or if I could get the tubes custom made in the UK for less? Not exactly a complicated design...

Thanks

Cerbie

Thanks for the prompt reply, nothing on their site but I sent them an email. Just seems bonkers for fork out £300 for two 1ft bent pipes.

Cerbie, the pipes regularly appear on Fleabay for around £100 as they are admired by many though once installed are truly Marmite. ...l liked them on my 996 but I was sadly in the minority. I also agree with others that have installed them that you can lose some low down torque & they probably aren't for everyday use! biggrin

I get the Marmite comment and maybe they will be too loud but worth a shot - easy swap if they end up being OTT.

I have been checking fleabay for a while now, the C2/4 ones are easy to get hold of but nothing for the C4S - maybe they are just too simple to make it worthwhile making.

Had one quote of £200 plus P&P plus VAT to get them custom made here, seems steep when the version for the C2/4 is off the shelf for £150 inc VAT with free shipping and includes new tail pipes!

Have you considered a "Gundo Hack"?

Have you tried unplugging the exhaust valve actuator cable / socket - cant recall exactly how this works on the C4S, but did it on mine. If you have the sports exhaust option then it leaves them in the louder mode all the time instead of shutting them between 25 and 45 mph. Sounds much better and costs nothing - assumes you have the porsche sports exhaust to start with though.

from the other thread...

By all accounts he quoted me a price of £40 if I had presented him with the mufflers ready for cutting and welding.

We could have done the bypass pipe mod, TIG welded, for around £60 and you fit them.

Think I'm going to bite the bullet and order the Fabspeed. The silencers are Milltek so it would be a shame to hack them about to weld in the bypass.

Will post a video of the car before and after the mod.

Too loud! Will sound like an old Ford Sierra with a blown exhaust.

Why don't you just try disconnecting or removing your silencers then firing the engine up? You'll immediately realise why you won't want the Fabspeed bypass pipes (you'd be embarrassed to drive the car, trust me. Yes they do sound that cr*p) and you won't have wasted a shilling.

Good suggestion, thx.
