Anyone know what a Gen 1.5 turbo is and how it's differs from a Gen 1 and Gen 2?.

You've lost me!

Was there a minor facelift of the gen 1 midlife?

It likely means the batch of cars with the Mezger engine but with the Gen 2 interior (at least the PCM3 anyway).

A friend has one - I think as manual (as I don't think they came with PDK, rather would be tip if auto) they're the most desirable 997 turbo...

Isn't it a late 2008/2009 car I would suspect then

Yes the last 997.1 Turbos into 2009 had the gen 2 Pcm....instantly recognisable by the black finish as opposed to the rather naff 'playstation grey' of the earlier cars.....I suppose the 'manuels' are the desirable ones considering the limited 5 speed tiptronics have not aged particularly well being superceeded by the PDK in the gen 2.......driving

Just found some stuff on Rennlist and this seems to be true! A 997 turbo gen 2 with the mezger!

This must be a pretty rare car. Anybody know how many were made?

Yep.. 2009MY 997.1 turbos had the gen 2 centre console with the PCM3 unit and facelifted heater controls. Not many about as sales dipped due to banking crisis. Major improvement over the crap PCM2 in most Gen 1 cars

It's a gen 1 car with the old lights and bumpers, only change is the PCM and heater controls, not worth the £10k over an earlier car in my opinion especially as the PCM system is fundamentally almost identical to the system it replaced, if the stereo is that important to you it still needs to go & be replaced by a decent set up, same for the rubbish Bose system

The last Gen1 997T's had Gen2 nav from the factory. My 09 car was such an example. I had assumed it was quite widely realised.

Here you go, my old one...

No, but if your budget is for a gen 1 then it is the one to get.

No not really, it's a slightly better satnav and finally proper BT so worth 1k more than an equivalent 997 turbo thats 6 months older IMHO

The BT is definitely useful if specced as is the optional USB connector, I had to go aftermarket with a Mobridge - good but not as good as it being integral and OEM

Is the PCM 3 only limited to 2009 Gen 1 cars or is there a cut off dates as I am looking for a low mileage manual PCM 3 manual

PCM2 and PCM3 now both massively outdated. If you're buying a 997 gen 1 buy the best car out there and if for example you see a low miles PCM2 car with limited slip diff and PCCB I'd have it over a PCM3 car without PCCB and limited slip diff
